Last week, Pippa McCaw, Alex Gotch and I hosted a Webinar for Australian and New Zealand lawyers who are looking to relocate to London this year. There were over 200 sign ups to the Webinar, but there aren't that many roles right now for Antipodean lawyers in London nor will there be in the coming months. The level of competition for roles is all the more reason to get in touch with us for bespoke career advice. If you are a lawyer looking to relocate to London, my main tips are: 1) Be proactive: could you improve your profile to help you make the move? Do you need to move to a larger firm to obtain work with better synergy with international markets? 2) Get your CV in shape: if a suitable role comes up, you want to be in a position to move quickly before the role is oversubscribed. 3) Watch our Webinar: we cover many relevant points for you to consider to help you make the move. Reach out if you want the "on-demand" version.

Are you an Australian or NZ citizen heading back to the Southern Hemisphere for the summer? Keen to get a contract signed before you make the move? With the European summer drawing to a close this is the time that many of you based overseas start to think about heading home for the summer. So why not beat the rush? We are working with firms that will sign contracts now for a start towards the end of this year. Firms are keen to hear from returning homegrown Australian and NZ Lawyers who have gained international experience and looking to make the move home after time overseas. We have built relationships with law firms who trust us to work with them and present them with quality and experienced candidates we know will fit into their firm. They then talk to us about whether roles they are considering could flex in terms of PQE they could work with, what opportunities they may have coming up or specific work becoming available. Those opportunities that are not even in the marketplace yet. Our preference is to talk through your CV and experience, for you to tell us what is going to work for you and your expectations and requirements, short term and long term. Then we can spend some time really exploring all options for you and present back to you. That is the benefit of using a recruitment business (one of many!) So whether you are looking to work in New Zealand or Australia we can help. Get in touch today to find out who is hiring and how we can work together to find you your next role back home. Senior Legal Recruiter Connecting Top Talent with Industry-leading opportunities in Australia (all states), London, Dublin, Singapore, Dubai, New York
𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲- 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Recently, I assisted a talented lawyer in securing an excellent role at a top tier law firm in Australia. Reflecting on this experience, I believe there are valuable insights that could benefit lawyers within my network who are contemplating a move. After dedicating several years to training and excelling at their current firm, the candidate recognised that advancing to a top-tier firm was the next logical step in their career journey. Despite their commendable background, the candidate encountered challenges during the interview process. The candidate was left feeling frustrated and unsure how to overcome these difficulties. When the candidate approached me for assistance, we took a strategic approach to address any potential shortcomings. We thoroughly analysed past interviews, identified areas for improvement, and dedicated time to self-reflection. Armed with newfound confidence and insights, the candidate embarked on the interview process once again, this time with my guidance. The candidate received multiple offers from a range of firms and was extremely happy with the result. This success underscores the importance of strategic interview preparation, as well as taking the time to understand how you can learn from past experiences. #success #placements #lawyer #australia

Top Tier Kiwi Lawyer: "I hadn't considered the Australia to London route previously" Forward-thinking about a shift to the UK, they wanted to know what career moves they'd need to make for an accelerated pathway into a magic/silver circle firm in London. I suggested they make a move into a band 1 team in the Australian market. How will a move from NZ to AUS enhance their career? Positioning themselves within a top tier/leading international firm in Australia will help them build their deals/matter sheet, given the sophistication of clients, deal value and volume of work, Plus they'll have a globally recognised firm on their CV, Giving them stronger job prospects in the London market. If you're starting to think about a move to London, it's important to get up-to-date information on market activity for your practice area/level and tailored advice on how best to structure your move to London.

One of my favourite aspects of recruiting in such a niche market such as Legal Finance is helping candidates navigate their way through their career, placing them on numerous occasions and appreciating the trust they put in me when deciding to leave their job search exclusively with me. Recruiting solely in this space for almost 14 years, it would be easy to think that I know almost everyone in the field (and of course I do know a lot of people!). However it's great to also speak to individuals that I've never spoken to before who may be new to the sector or just that our paths have never crossed. We've expanded into new locations (Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Paris, Milan to name a few) so that has been really interesting speaking to new people in different locations. I enjoy hearing about candidates challenges and gripes in their current role, frustrations and pinch points with regards to reaching the next stage in their career. It's at this point where my years of experience come into play, advising on what skills you need to be exposed to in order to reach the next level, or talking through other firm structures which may suit your current skillset better. If we've not spoken before and you'd like to arrange a conversation, I'd welcome the opportunity to do so. Let's arrange a call! If you're one of those who I have helped previously and you feel like it might be that time again.... I'm all ears! Let me know when you are free. Pop me a LinkedIn message, e-mail or call today and we can discuss further. 📞 020 7382 4202 📧 [email protected] Please LIKE, SHARE and COMMENT in order for this to reach a wider audience.

AM Law 100 Legal Recruiter | Former Leveraged Finance Associate & World Championship Athlete | New York
"What will set you apart?" Moving from practising as a lawyer to becoming a legal recruiter begs an obvious question - why? A story I will delve into further down the track. On reflection of my personal skills, how I enjoy the business of people (and talking) with having a desire to remain working within fast-paced environments has resulted in a recent career pivot. While having lunch with a friend who currently practises as a lawyer, they asked me the question "...what will set you apart?". Isn't that exciting - getting to choose. This is a sentiment I implore anyone to reflect upon. A question you can ask yourself whether you are comfortable in your current role, debating a move overseas, or if you are feeling like change is on the horizon - even if you don't know what that looks like. So…what will set you apart?

🌟 Attention to all Aspiring International Barristers! 🌟 We understand the excitement that comes with discovering job opportunities that align with your legal aspirations. However, here's some valuable advice: before you start perfecting that application, let's emphasise the importance of thoroughly researching your eligibility for the role. Each one of you has unique circumstances – your immigration status, qualifications, work permits, language skills, and more. What made another international student a suitable candidate for a specific role may not necessarily apply to you due to these individual differences. Remember, paying attention to detail is a crucial skill for an aspiring barrister. Conduct thorough research, tailor your applications accordingly, and make well-informed decisions about your career path. Your dedication and strategic approach will help you stand out in the competitive legal field. Best of luck on your journeys! 🌟

How do we attract the best talent? At present, the Dublin legal market is a job seeker's dream. Firms are asking; "How can we position ourselves and our vacancies to be more attractive than others in the market?" Here are five strategies that play a part in getting the best talent on the market: 1️⃣ Distinctive Firm Culture and Values: Culture and values matter, what sets you apart from everyone else? Communicate what makes your firm a great place to work. People aren't just looking for a job, they want somewhere to thrive. 2️⃣ Expertise: Highlight your expertise to attract niche skills and knowledge. How often does this team hire or give a chance to those outside the firm? Top talent want to work on the best teams. 3️⃣ Competitive Compensation and Benefits: Is your compensation & benefits actually competitive? If you can't reach the salaries on offer at other firms what can you do that they can't. Financial incentive is only one part of the equation. Flexible working, professional development, progression opportunities all add up to a more attractive deal. 4️⃣ Mentorship and Career Development: Career development matters, especially to more junior lawyers. What support and insight do you provide? Further education support, networking and professional development can be deciding factors. 5️⃣ Positive Candidate Experience: Ensure every interaction with your firm is a positive experience. Create a seamless and personalised approach from first contact to job offer. Communication, timely feedback and genuine interest in the candidate's career matter. Negative candidate experiences can damage a reputation that takes years to build.
