PTSD does not discriminate... People of all ethnicities, backgrounds and careers can experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. You are NOT alone. While PTSD is slightly more common among Veterans than civilians, anyone can develop PTSD at any age. This includes combat veterans and people who have experienced or witnessed a physical or sexual assault, abuse, an accident, a disaster, or other serious events. According to recent estimates, about 8 million adults in the United States alone have PTSD in any given year. This means that approximately 3.5% of the US population is affected by PTSD annually (including both Veterans and civilians). Attention all concerned citizens and advocates for our veterans and active service members! The statistics regarding the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among those who have bravely served our nation are deeply troubling. From 2017 to 2022, there has been a significant share of U.S. veterans and active service members associated with the Wounded Warrior Project experiencing PTSD as a consequence of their military service since 9/11. This alarming trend demands immediate attention and action. Our veterans and service members have sacrificed so much in the defense of our freedoms, and it's our duty as a society to ensure they receive the support and care they deserve. PTSD can have debilitating effects on individuals and their families, impacting their mental health, relationships, and overall quality of life. It's imperative that we come together as a community to provide resources, assistance, and understanding to those who are struggling with this invisible but profound burden. We cannot afford to ignore the silent suffering of our heroes any longer. It's time to rally behind them, raise awareness, and advocate for better access to mental health services, treatment options, and support networks. Let's stand united in our commitment to honoring their service by ensuring they receive the care and compassion they need to heal and thrive. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Join us in this urgent call to action to support our veterans and service members facing PTSD. Their well-being is our collective responsibility, and together, we can provide them with the help and hope they deserve. Let's spread awareness and support those in need. 🌍💙 🔗 Check out the full article for more information: https://lnkd.in/dXSrNd2X Healing Warrior Hearts Bringing Veterans and Families Closer Together #HealingWarriorHearts #SupportForSurvivors #ptsd #EndSexualViolence #TogetherWeHeal #Empowerment #MentalHealthAwareness #posttraumaticstressdisorder

The war affects you and your family every day because combat-related PTSD has left your veteran less able to be the spouse and parent they want to be. Maybe that effect is mild, or episodic, but you know it when you see it. Your partnership has shifted. You end up taking care of things you expected your veteran to handle. You want to do things but they want to stay home. You leave for a while and they’re afraid for your safety. Angry outbursts are hurtful, at the least. Your love for your veteran keeps you there but doesn’t solve the real challenges that you face. We want to provide you some tools for managing this very difficult lifestyle, but first, we want you to know that we get it. #therapistsofig #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthmatters

We are firm believers that if you want to understand brain and mental health disorders, you have to examine the physical brain. That is why we are proud to have assembled the largest collection of human postmortem brains with #PTSD in the world. But why PTSD? According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs: -- 6% of all people will have PTSD at some point in their lives -- Veterans, particularly those deployed to an active war zone, are more likely to have PTSD than civilians These numbers are estimates. There are limited studies that specifically ask about PTSD and some people will avoid treatment, leading to a lack of formal diagnosis. Continued misunderstandings about PSTD also lead to ongoing stigma. Talking about and creating more awareness about PTSD are ways that you can help. We will be busy in the lab doing our part to find a solution. #Veteran #MilitaryVeteran #Deployment #USMilitary #USVeteransAffairs
