Today, I arrived at work to learn that it's, "Employee Appreciation Day". I should have known this, and I felt guilty, selfish, forgetful, for not planning ahead. I wanted to go back 2 weeks to put a thoughtful plan together to celebrate the team that I cherish so much. If you're like me...ah-hem, last minute...there is still time. Late is better than never, right? Here are some ideas to celebrate your team, before the end of the day hits: 1. Get a pulse-check at how your organization is feeling, or even, how are YOU feeling, and what do you need? If you can feel the stress palpitating, go with this option: the gift of time for self. Offer time off. Time to reflect, have space to think and relax, can be beneficial for all and actually boost morale and new idea generation. 2. How can you support your team in learning and development? Offer an Audible gift card, or a Kindle reader - or a subscription to a favorite publication. Bonus points for including a curated reading list! (on my list would be anything about the changing workplace culture, how AI is changing the way we hire people to grow our companies, and how to achieve a balanced family/work/passions schedule and still do it all." 3. The gift of gifts: If you like gifting (and unwrapping) things: Snappy seems like a really neat company to help curate good ideas. As does Newstand Inc. 4. Anchor in gratitude: Did you remember to say 'Thank You'? A heartfelt note at a minimum, or Loom video is at the tip of your fingertips. I'm sure there are more ideas (please share with me!), but these seem readily available-and budget friendly-to deploy now. Was helluva year for video production at Piksel! Any production since forever comes with its own unforeseen tiny little issues that really love to test you on the day of shooting. What we've learned and constantly do is maximize time in pre-production in order to minimize time during production: 1. Do extensive and detailed storyboards 2. Try doing videoboards - go on location and shoot the whole video with a phone. Maybe even edit it afterwards. 3. Let the crew do their thing. One person cannot be the director, the DP, the AD, the producer and the editor. 4. Shoot coverage then happily delete it If its never used :)
