Last week, our London studio celebrated the thrilling debut of The Good City, a global endeavor dedicated to improving urban environments worldwide, in partnership with Nippon Koei. The event featured insightful presentations from prominent industry leaders, including Roger Madelin CBE of BRITISH LAND REAL ESTATE LIMITED, as well as diverse viewpoints from experts hailing from cities such as Lima, New Delhi, Toronto, and Tokyo. Indeed, Design Director and Senior Associate Harim Labuschagne was also among the distinguished speakers who spoke about this initiative and the challenges and opportunities Toronto is facing during its current rapid growth period. Supported by The Academy of Urbanism, the debut involved tackling city-specific challenges and discussing practical strategies. Concurrently, the Asia-Pacific launch took place in Kuala Lumpur, reflecting the initiative's global reach. The Good City microsite serves as the showcase for the initiative, acting as a central hub for leveraging our collective expertise and outlining our vision for creating better cities for all. These events represent the start of a worldwide effort to improve city living through innovations in energy use, low-carbon transport and buildings, and the optimization of technology and data. Today, I want to showcase a building that has become a green beacon amidst the bustling urban landscape of Singapore, the Oasia Hotel by Woha. Its concrete structure is cloaked in an aluminum façade that supports the lush vegetation defining this building. https://lnkd.in/e_rgK9kE However, it's crucial to remember that merely having plants and trees in a building doesn't automatically make it sustainable. True sustainability goes beyond appearances; it involves a deep commitment to environmentally friendly materials and practices, energy efficiency, and a long-term vision. Despite this, buildings like the Oasia Hotel can represent something essential: hope. They are tangible symbols of our desire to make our cities greener, healthier, and more livable. They remind us that nature and architecture can coexist in perfect harmony and that every step towards sustainability matters. Together, we can continue working to transform our cities into more sustainable and vibrant places.

During this time, we've witnessed the remarkable growth of #LEED in the North Asia region and documented the stories of over 30 enterprises/brands in sustainability over the past 20 years. These narratives have culminated in the release of our book titled "Green Building Actions in the Context of Dual Carbon: LEED in China". On March 21, during the four-day Design Shenzhen at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, jing wang, Vice President, North Asia of our organization, officially launched the book. The event, targeting architects, interior designers, real estate developers, and design-savvy consumers, provided an ideal platform for the book's unveiling. Then Jing initiated in a discussion with Jae C., Design Director of McDonald's China, focusing on "More than Design: Building a Sustainable Brand with Green Buildings." The book comprises 52 articles organized into five chapters: · 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏: Introduces LEED and its practical applications in daily life, exploring mainstream social topics e.g. "How to make cities more female-friendly?". · 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐: Features interviews with executives from real estate industry giants, including Shui On Land, Swire Properties, etc. · 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟑: Explores sustainable practices implemented by various industry giants, such as Tencent and Volkswagen. · 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟒: Showcases landmark projects representing different types of LEED-certified spaces in China. · 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟓: Presents case studies of LEED for Cities and Communities, along with an analysis of Chinese cities with a high prevalence of green building construction. Singapore calls itself the Garden City, and it’s making good on that promise. Singapore's meteoric economic rise launched a landscape of towering architecture in the compact city-state, but as the metropolis continues to grow, urban planners are weaving nature throughout—and even into its heights. New developments must include plant life, in the form of green roofs, cascading vertical gardens, and verdant walls. Looking forward, 2030 is going to be a big year for Singapore. It has created an ambitious program that promises all households to be within a ten-minute walk from greenspace. The plans include 200 hectares of skyrise greenery, a million trees planted, and a 50% increase in parkland. Because #ATreeCanBe innovative, finding new ways to green cities across the globe.

It is now difficult to imagine a home, office, shopping mall, or public transport system in Asia’s cosmopolitan areas without controlled temperatures. Modern construction and design practices significantly impact carbon emissions, contributing to a substantial portion of global energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Today, air conditioning systems alone account for nearly 4% of global greenhouse gases. To combat the environmental impact of modern construction, architects in Asia are turning to heritage for sustainable solutions. At Our Heritage Homes, we are dedicated to preserving the essence of privately owned heritage properties. We believe that traditional methods of adapting to and manipulating the local climate in these heritage homes serve as valuable examples of sustainable solutions today. These methods, including features like high ceilings, large windows, and the use of natural materials, are now being combined with cutting-edge green technology to create sustainable buildings. Key examples include Jason Pomeroy's zero-carbon homes in Malaysia and Singapore, which leverage natural light and ventilation. Let’s discover some of the most sustainable projects currently under construction in Asia below.
