Today is #Juneteenth, a day that is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. The BCCA continues to work on addressing the structural inequalities created by racism, especially anti-Black racism, within education settings in British Columbia by providing information on black history, resources for black youth, and more. March is Black History Month. The National Museum of African American History & Culture is "highlighting the 'art of resistance' and the artists who used their crafts to uplift the race, speak truth to power and inspire a nation." Tonya Lovelace speaks truth to power. “Lovelace says that domestic violence programs need to consider that they may be complicit in systemic racism because their services are designed to only adequately serve limited populations of people.” You have to trust helpers in order to reach out for help. It's important to have your needs seen by service providers. You have to be a helper who sees who people are and the issues they are faced with in order to truly assist. Systemic racism isn't always clear to those who aren't affected by it. It silences and reduces options for anyone experiencing it because they can't trust how helpers will respond. I am educating myself to be the best ally I can be as a white woman. Take up this challenge! #coerciverelationships #jennifercparker #BlackHistoryMonth #systemicracism #RecoveryForAll #recoveryispossible

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day serves as a reminder of the long and painful journey towards equality and justice for Black people in America. It is a time to reflect on the progress that has been made, but also to acknowledge the work that still needs to be done. As a society, we must continue to educate ourselves about the history of slavery and its lasting effects on Black communities. We must also actively work towards dismantling systemic racism and promoting equality for all. We must never forget the atrocities of the past, but we must also use them as a catalyst for change. Let us honor the significance of Juneteenth and strive towards a future where all people are truly free and equal. Happy Juneteenth to all. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #RacialJustice #BlackLivesMatter

Today, on Juneteenth, we commemorate the day in 1865 when over 250,000 African Americans in Texas finally learned of their emancipation ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾. This day, now a national holiday, is a testament to the resilience and perseverance of the Black community. However, the legacy of slavery and systemic racism continues to cast a long shadow, with stark health and economic disparities still plaguing African Americans. As we celebrate Juneteenth, let's also recommit ourselves to dismantling these inequities. Reparations, in the form of wealth-building opportunities, are an essential step toward addressing these injustices. From federal policies to local initiatives, the momentum for reparations is growing. Let's join this movement and work towards a future where the promise of liberty and justice for all is truly fulfilled 💚💛❤️. #Juneteenth #ADOS #Reparations #Equality #MinorityHealth #DiversityandInclusion #HealthEquity #SharedHarvest #howwelead #commonwealthfund #reedescholars #SocialJustice

🌟 In the face of ongoing acts of systemic racism that deeply affect our communities, it's crucial to take action and stand in solidarity with those who are marginalized and oppressed. Many of us may be wondering how we can help, particularly in supporting the Black community. Remember that being an ally is a journey, and it requires ongoing reflection, growth, and action. By standing together in solidarity and actively supporting the Black community, we can work towards a more just, equitable, and inclusive society for all. #BlackLivesMatter #Allyship #EndSystemicRacism #WOAT🖤

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we celebrate the role of solidarity in the story of us. Alongside Black people working cooperatively toward freedom have always been the contributing hands of allies, eager to support and mobilize around our calls for liberation. We stand in the same solidarity in naming that the freedom of Black people is tied to the freedom of all people and joining the calls for a #FreeCongo, #FreeSudan, and #FreePalestine. #Education is crucial to combatting this oppression and creating an equitable world where all can thrive. With the ability to access and examine history with a critical lens comes the ability to understand, interrogate, and challenge the injustices all communities face. For #educators and all committed to liberated learning, we encourage you to tap into the insight, precedent, and legacy of those who came before us to learn, teach, mobilize, and advocate for oppressed peoples around the world as our #BlackTeacher ancestors and their allies did. #WeAreTheirLegacy.
