When you become eligible for Medicare, you only have a short timeframe to enroll, and it’s important to use it wisely. Today, we continue our series of posts highlighting each Medicare enrollment opportunity by focusing on the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. The Advantage Open Enrollment Period occurs annually from January 1st – March 31st, and it allows individuals currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan to change their coverage selection by either switching to a different Medicare Advantage plan, or by selecting a different form of Medicare coverage entirely. While the next Advantage Open Enrollment Period is still several months away, individuals currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan should still be thinking ahead. These individuals can also utilize the Annual Election Period (AEP) that runs annually from October 15 – December 7 if they’d like to change their current Medicare selections.
