Three years ago we clapped for our NHS heroes. Today, our data reveals that our ‘forgotten’ NHS heroes are being subjected to weekly abuse, as waiting lists continue to rise. As capacity challenges continue to haunt the NHS,  it is vital that we invest in the digitisation of the NHS’ infrastructure to relieve the pressure on our frontline workers, and empower patients to take more control over their own care management. Question: How do nursing homes stay accountable and receive certification to function? Answer: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services require nursing homes to complete a recertification survey. The Issue: Currently, the recertification process is not conducive to improving residents' lives based on what's important to residents. That’s where this particular Action Plan, comes in. Over the next year, the Coalition will work with at least one state survey agencies (known as SSAs) to develop and pilot a data-driven, two-day targeted recertification survey. This survey will facilitate an agency’s ability to improve and sustain capacity to complete surveys in a timely manner, while boosting inclusion of residents’ voices in oversight processes overall. The Biden administration set minimum staffing levels for the nation's 15,000 nursing homes to improve quality of care. However, a recent study by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) offers no specific recommendations on what these levels should be. The report indicates that higher staffing levels could result in better care, fewer hospitalizations, and fewer ER visits, but states that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Critics argue this is a sign that the administration is falling short of its promise. Nursing home groups argue that each facility is unique and needs flexibility in staffing, but patient advocates warn that low staffing can risk resident safety and well-being. In this tug-of-war between industry interests and patient advocacy, finding a common ground remains elusive. The NHS faces an unprecedented demand for elective care and substantial pressure on its finances.
