A few questions we've been getting regarding new membership in the Scranton Business and Professional Women. - What is the Scranton BPW? For over 100 years, the Scranton Business and Professional Women have advocated for women in business. From the marching for the right to vote and providing scholarships for our youth, to gender equality and women’s rights, our organization serves to empower women in our community and celebrate their incredible legacies and achievements! - Do I need to reside or work in Scranton? No, you do not need to reside or work in the city of Scranton to join us. We are centrally located in Northeast PA and have members from a wide variety of surrounding towns. If there is a local club closer to where you work/live, we may suggest it after receiving your registration. - Do I have to be currently employed? No, you do not need to be working at this time. We support women from the earliest stages of their career through retirement. - What is the time commitment? We have created a unique schedule this year to accommodate the changing needs of our members. Typically there is one meeting a month lasting no more than 2 hours. However there are additional (and optional) opportunities to participate including educational webinars, committees, community engagement activities, and more if you would like a deeper involvement. - How much are dues? November 25, designated by the UN General Assembly as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, serves as a global call to action. Acknowledging the pervasive issues of rape, domestic violence, and other forms of harm faced by women, this day aims to unveil the often concealed scale and true nature of the problem. The annual themes, such as 'Orange your Neighbourhood,' 'HearMeToo,' 'Generation Equality Stands Against Rape,' 'Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!' and 'End Violence against Women Now!,' set by the UN Secretary-General's campaign UNiTE, reflect evolving strategies to combat and prevent gender-based violence. We stand with determination to educate, advocate, and eliminate violence against women. 🌍💪
