Today we honour people of African descent working within the member organizations of the Kentro Christian Network as well as those everyone meets along the journey of fulfilling the calling of a positive mission for the betterment of all! This day aims to promote the extraordinary contributions of the African diaspora around the world and to eliminate all forms of discrimination against people of African descent. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights and have the potential to contribute constructively to the development and well-being of their societies. Any doctrine of racial superiority is scientifically false, morally condemnable, socially unjust, and dangerous and must be rejected, together with theories that attempt to determine the existence of separate human races. The International Decade (2015-2024) aims to celebrate the important contributions of people of African descent worldwide, advance social justice and inclusion policies, eradicate racism and intolerance, promote human rights, and assist in creating better, more prosperous communities, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals spearheaded by the United Nations. #PeopleOfAfricanDescent #fightracism #togetherness

It's flabbergasting to me that the same white folks who, mere days before October 7, used their ignorance on racial and world issues as a shield from accountability are now experts and telling folks advocating for a free Palestine that we're ignorant and racist, or worse, firing them, because we advocate for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the occupation, and a stop to the current genocide. It's wild to me that the same white folks who, months ago, during a conversation about Land Back, said they didn't know enough about the history or what it meant for the U.S. or Palestine, or passed it off as "too complex an issue," are now experts and telling us that even talking about these issues is antisemitism. It's inconceivable to me how the same white folks who three years ago begged (and never stopped begging) for continuous free education from BIPOC in their workplaces and lives (without doing any sort of self-education in between required work trainings), are now experts claiming to know the ins and outs of the conflict in the Middle East while disparaging those same folks they siphoned and extracted expertise and emotional labor from for years. It's almost as if no matter what the reason is — complete ignorance (with no will to change the situation and do any research) or false expertise — people with privilege are always leveraging something to shut down these difficult conversations before they get a chance to start because then they get to determine the pace at which equity and justice happens (or if it does at all). I wish more people sitting idly by — as BIPOC people who gave the benefit of the doubt over the last 3 years are being silenced and chastised at their workplace, or worse, finding themselves unemployed — noticed who is speaking like an authority when not too long ago, they didn't know what a microaggression was, the difference between "equity" and "equality," or how to take accountability for the harmful beliefs and statements that they spewed on the regular. Please tell me y'all have enough discernment to tell which are your equity and justice thought leaders doing what they've always done — advocating for the rights and lives of targeted people — and who is using the (very real, and not at all to be minimized) trauma from horrific moments in their history to silence people advocating for the rights of targeted people to *live* (with the added insult of parroting DEI words incorrectly to do it), all while a genocide is happening, funded with our tax dollars. If you didn't notice before, now hopefully you do. And it's never too late to do the right thing. Stop people with relative privilege from silencing folks! Use your voice to disrupt the accusations, stop the firings, and reaffirm the expertise of the justice and equity workers who always bear the brunt of your organization's collective cultural unawareness. That, or stop pretending that you were listening and learning this whole time.

Today on June 19, we celebrate #Juneteenth (a combination of “June” and “nineteenth”), honouring the legacy of Black power and liberation movements. June 19, 1865 marks the announcement (from the Major General of the so-called United States at the time) of the end of the Civil War and that enslaved people were "free" (more than two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued). As an Indigenous-led organization, it is important we remind ourselves that NONE OF US ARE FREE, UNTIL WE’RE ALL FREE. We also recognize that our collective struggle is not over and we still have a long journey to a more just, equitable, and sustainable world for all future generations. Climate justice is directly linked to racial justice. Generations of extractive and predatory behaviors have led to noticeable gaps in climate impacts across racialized and non-racialized communities. Until structural racism, white supremacy, and colonialism are ended, and until there is LAND BACK, we must remain committed to the fight. Juneteenth reminds us that we must call for an end to the systemic racism and injustice that remains embedded in our colonial structures and institutions to this day. Free Palestine. Free Congo. Beyond unacceptable. We need to hold ourselves and those around us to a higher standard of humanity. All support to Animah Kosai for her courage in using her experience to advocate for herself and others. The increase in verbal racial violence on many SM platforms including this one have been staggering and revealing. Many say that it's better to stay out of politics in order to succeed, but is that really the reality? As soon as I delved deeper into it, I realized that politics is deeply intertwined with economics, and that every political conflict has economic consequences. It's clear that the European Union and the United States, two of the major capitalist powers, are closely tied to business, corporations, and governance. However, that's just one facet of the issue. On the other hand, we're witnessing movements advocating for various rights, whether it's human rights, women's rights, children's rights, animal rights, or even LGBTQIA rights. These movements hold a central place in politics and activism, waiting for the slightest mistake to turn it into a matter of public opinion and a pressure card on states. Yet, it's troubling to see that when heinous acts occur right before our eyes, such as a genocide unfolding in an open-air prison, with crimes and acts of barbarity using the darkest technologies in history, in the heart of the information age, technology, and the internet, everyone seems to choose to remain silent and apolitical. It's as if the violation of international rights and the murder of innocent civilians, half of whom are children, and the majority are women and the elderly, aren't as important as other causes, like protecting dolphins in the ocean. Yesterday, a hospital was bombed in Gaza, under the pretext of wanting to "euthanize" the lives of Palestinians. An explosive force equivalent to a quarter of a nuclear bomb was unleashed on Gaza. Thousands of innocents lost their lives, and millions are left homeless, in a state of emotional shock, awaiting their fate in darkness. How long will we continue to remain silent in the face of this ethnic cleansing? How long will we play with words? It's time to acknowledge that Palestinians are engaged in legitimate resistance under international law, merely defending their fundamental right to live in peace and reclaim their property and land in the face of Israeli occupation. We are witnessing a genocide in the era of freedom of expression and the Nobel Peace Prize, in full view of a supposedly neutral world. #GAZA #HUMANRIGHTS #JUSTICE #PALESTINE
