Our Outreach Worker Mus has started facilitating a new Gardening Club with Waterloo Community Counselling. It's absolutely fantastic to see how much they achieved, despite this unpredictable Spring weather! We're looking forward to seeing and sharing more updates throughout the summer.
Last week our Gardening Club - kindly facilitated by the lovely folk at Bankside Open Spaces Trust - had its first wet and wonderful meeting.
In our first session the group planted 60 sunflowers 🌻and countless sweet peas🌼. They also assembled a mini greenhouse to keep all our plants safe and to grow well!
Over the summer our green-fingered group will meet weekly in the WCC garden to spend time outdoors, meet new people and learn about gardening and horticulture.
We are delighted to have this project - thank you BOST👨🌾🤲🌱

🌱 Community and Gardening: Together We Grow! 🌱
Community isn't just about being together, it's about growing together—both literally and figuratively! As a family caregiver, I've discovered the joy of combining gardening with community involvement. Here are some creative ways you can cultivate friendships and connect deeper with your community through gardening:
🌱Explore Local Nurseries: Dive into the world of plants with local experts who share your passion.
🌱Attend Gardening Events: From farmers' markets to plant swaps, these gatherings are goldmines for meeting like-minded individuals.
🌱Join a Community Garden: Whether you have a green thumb or are just starting, community gardens are great for learning and connecting.
🌱Start a Garden Club: Gather family caregivers and start your own gardening community.
🌱Share tips, support, and harvests!
Gardening isn't just about plants; it's about planting the seeds for lasting relationships and a resilient community. 🌼💚

AGRICULTURE:
Thuch Ajak sometime back, or was it a few months ago, I overheard you pouring endless words of encouragement to the citizens of South Sudan on the importance of investing in the Agricultural sector. To be precise, it was on Eye radio when you were being interviewed by my learned colleague Emmanuel Joseph Akile.
Junubin [South Sudanese] as they are being referred to, are surviving by the Grace of God. All sorts of eatable goods come from either Uganda or Kenya. This fact beats my understanding. We have a government with full capacity to lead and manage its citizens, including any living creature within her boundaries.
South Sudanese have the potential for large-scale or any-scale farming for that matter. They need empowerment. they need financial support. they need agricultural or any farming training. In fact: A sunk of money is poured into Agriculture. When one is food secure, only that person have human security. A hungry man is an angry man, they say! Junubin are hungry. they need food. Good job Thuck Ajak! keep up the good work, my old time friend.

From the little space in backyard in Caroline springs and quest of cultural appropriate crops, the vision of the United African Farm was conceived and natured through passion and determination to make it a reality.
We are thrilled, honoured and humbled to have The United African Farm story aired 3 weeks ago on gardening Australia. Words cannot best describe how grateful your support to this great community initiative.

I’ve been telling the story of Libby MT for decades. It was not that long ago that asbestos was in a garden amendment called vermiculite. The same talc was also in crayons. And no one knew until it was too late.
Luckily, asbestos didn’t actually find its way into crayons, but it did find its way into all kinds of other industries and many professionals in those industries died - not to mention the three decades of families in Libby Montana, where the mine was located.
Investing in vegan fertilizer is investing in the future of food and home gardening and school gardening and community gardening.
Fertilizer companies are not going to clean up their acts on their own. Let’s not wait for disaster. Let’s make home gardening safe for our kids. Keep animals out of organic fertilizer. Join me today as our lead angel investor.
It's National Gardening Week and even if you're not a gardener of green things like myself, your organization’s branding may need tending to.

Recently, I administered a questionnaire on Home gardening in a suburban location. Interestingly, women were the primary participants engaging in this activity. 75% of respondents mentioned they started home gardening due to the rising cost of food in the market. My thoughts now!!! What if we had raised awareness sooner? What if we took the home garden seriously earlier than now!! Perhaps we could have prevented this surge in food prices. #growWhatYouConsume#highCostOfFood#FoodSecurity#homeGardening#FarmingSystems
