Midway through #insectweek - we here to shout about inspiring the next generation of nature and bug enthusiasts! At our recent Bankside Open Spaces Festival, our wonderful Community Engagement Facilitator Mus took a gang of intrepid explorers out on a barefoot bug safari. What’s a barefoot safari? Well, its simply taking your shoes off for a nature walk (yes, we checked the area first…). A barefoot walk is a great way to experience nature with all your senses, plus there’s a wealth of evidence around the benefits for children: https://lnkd.in/eNhbt6sZ. The group met lots of insect buddies in Southwark's Little Dorrit Park, proving that even in the heart of the city - a wilderness safari is possible. This accessible activity was part of our festival Neurodiversity Zone - thank you to the The Neurodiversity Family Hub C.I.C. who helped us host the zone. #neurodiversity #everyonewelcome #lovenature #insectgram #NatureCharity #LondonGardens #Community [Image description: a cheerful carosel about how we love nature, plants and bugs and sharing that love with people, especially the next generation of nature lovers. We do this through craft (with an image of a girl at a free craft activity), nature trails (image of our nature trail in Waterloo Green) and a barefoot safari (images of our staff and children in among planting at Little Dorrit Park looking at bugs while barefoot).]

What you see is a Terrarium. It is an interdependent, self-sustaining eco-system, a whole universe inside a bell jar. A terrarium is visual proof that life can thrive even when cut off from the outside world. That we always find ways to adapt, stay alive and thrive, even in our own little bubbles. Earlier #Organisations were built as a Self-Sustained Ecosystem : #Opportunities offering professional roles, #learning, #development, #growth within the Organisation through #jobmovements and up skilling. Planned townships, offering education, health care, recreation within the community setups. Having grown up in a township, I have a deep appreciation towards the tight-knit community, built like a Terrarium. Where neighbours are like #family and #trust is the foundation of the relationship, every small celebration is a community affair, #diversity is a default, every piece of knowledge is shared and juniors are #mentored and when hard times hit, equilibrium is brought in through #togetherness.

Our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be doing a Family Hike and Trail Clean-Up (PHX)! SATURDAY MORNING (November 25th) we will be cleaning up the Holbert Trailhead on South Mountain in South Phoenix! Difficulty: Difficult Access: Start at the Park Main Entranced. Take the first left on to Phoenix South Mountain Park. From this road, proceed to Holbert Trailhead to continue onto Holbert Trail. This trail offers a steady climb to the upper areas of South Mountain Park. Hike the extension trail that leads to Dobbins Lookout and be rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley below. The Holbert Trail also provides a route to connect with the National Trail just east of the T.V. Towers and west of Buena Vista Lookout. Distance: 2.5 mi Elevation Change: 1,100 ft. Hiking is an excellent low-impact workout, and is an outdoor activity delivering benefits beyond scenic and fun. Below are five reasons to hike with your kids: 1. Exercise. 2. Build self-confidence 3. Exposure to wildlife 4. Practice “Leave no trace” A great opportunity to talk about why we do not leave our trash in the park, and what happens to the litter that is left behind. 5. Unplug together We all know that kids spend a lot of time using digital media, and it is true for adults as well. Heading out for a family hike is a great way to take a break from your devices and connect with each other and the outdoors for a while instead. Make sure you dress appropriately!! Here's the thing, I love nature, but I also really love the *people* who love nature. Humans will fixate on the most interesting, specific parts of the natural world, and I am always charmed by how we connect over these fixations. The #BlueRidgeNaturalistNetwork is a group of people doing just that: coming together to be outside together, learn more about the planet we live on, and share enthusiasm about the natural world. Check them out, join them for a program, and become a "better citizen of the world."
