During the “#handelsblatt annual conference BankTech”, I presented my vision of the banking of the future in my keynote speech "The Evolution of Banking – Making the Future Possible". A future in which the physical world merges more and more with the virtual world and improves the quality of life. It’s clear that more and more people and things are being connected digitally. Interconnectivity is the keyword. A German Federal Government's research program on communication systems predicts that there will be 50 billion networked devices by 2030. Data volumes will also increase exponentially. Experts expect 350 to 400 zettabytes worldwide by 2030. From my point of view, four things are important for banks to be fit for the future: 1)     The widespread use of Smart Data to provide personalised services to customers. 2)     New business models with the support of new technologies. 3)     The integration of banking services into platforms or the development of their own digital ecosystems. 4)     The focus must be on our customers. The goal is an optimal user experience. In the end, customers will decide which services they use via which channels. Only those who use them willingly on a regular basis will continue to be relevant in the future. This is precisely why Commerzbank is working on services such as the virtual banking assistant based on artificial intelligence and the custody of crypto assets.
