Chuffed to get a mention from David Hockney on TV (and a nice surprise)! Back from family hols, and spotted there's a documentary about David Hockney on Sky Arts. I watched the first two episodes yesterday evening and they are full of wonderful anecdotes, such as how he "gets to know" trees, like people, as he studies and paints them. I was curious to see what, if anything, they'd say about the iPad paintings. In the second episode especially, quite a bit as it turns out, as it's all about the work in Normandy. Even a mention of me ๐คฉ; in his words, 'the mathematician in Leeds', who worked on rejigging the Brushes app and incorporating the brushes Hockney mentions that he designed himself. I've only ever read that in articles before/heard it second hand, so there's something about hearing the words from the artist himself. Here's a link to the episode itself:ย https://lnkd.in/dXQZ9Kfu https://lnkd.in/dmxdbeVT As an aside, there was a recent exhibition of his work in Tokyo, for which I gather the Japanese translation of "mathematician" in the catalogue credits comes out, rather amusingly, as "developer". The circle is complete. If you're curious about the story behind that, read more here:ย https://lnkd.in/ghYf9PMh It was also really interesting hearing him talk about the depiction of space and time, and how the viewer interacts with pieces like the enormous "A Year in Normandie", which is currently on display at Salts Mill (and was made on his iPad). One point being that it's you, the viewer, that moves through the seasons, that moves time, as you walk along the 295ft (90m) of the painting: "Like the Bayeux Tapestry, you have to walk past it to experience it and so you can experience... the whole year. You are the moving thing." In other news, due to a delayed start on some other work, it currently looks like I've got some Autumn availability from next month. You know where to find me. In the meantime I'll be continuing some R&D to look at converting a certain app to #visionOS. I have some other news about Sky, but will cover that in another post... ๐ #skyย #hockney #ipadย #developerย #notreallyamathematician

I really love the #TVseries #StarWarsTheAcolyte; it is action-packed with captivating plots that are very different from other Star Wars films or series. Although it is helpful to have watched prior Star Wars films, itโs not necessary. This show takes place 100 years before Episode 1 of the #StarWars films. It is a story about a girl named Osha (Amandla Stenberg) who is accused of murdering a #Jedi Master named Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss). However, Osha firmly states her innocence because she is apparently loyal to the Jediโs. The plot is pretty complex. Osha suffers a tragedy as a young girl when her hometown is burned down by her twin sister, Mae (also played by Amandla Stenberg) and everyone, including Mae, is presumed dead, except for Osha, which is suspicious. Afterwards, Osha trains to be a Jedi but ultimately drops out after a few years. Sol (Lee Jung-jae), a Jedi master and Oshaโs former teacher, believes that Osha is innocent and attempts to find her and confirm her innocence. Another Jedi master is murdered while Osha is with Sol so there may be another killer. The show follows Osha and Mae as the audience tries to discover who the killers of the Jedi masters are. What I like about the series are the beautiful settings, the costumes, and the musical composition. The settings include areas with beautiful lush landscapes and other areas in a frozen ice land. The costumes are very unique as they are in most Star Wars films and series. For example, when the witchโs ceremony is held in the third episode, the gold costumes of the women are stunning. The background music is both beautiful and eerie, and always fits the various scenes perfectly. One of my favorite parts of the show is when the group travels to a remote planet to find one of the Wookie Jedi masters and all of the surprising creatures they see along the way including a massive flying beetle. On Disney June 4, 2024 with weekly episode releases afterwards. https://lnkd.in/ekwSrNKb

New Post: โ3 Body Problemโ ending: What does Dr Ye Wenjieโs โjokeโ about God really mean? - https://lnkd.in/gFHzQzfx - The issue with a show as mysterious as Netflix's 3 Body Problem is you want to know the answers now โ and that feeling gets amplified with the knowledge we may have to wait another year to get them. One of the biggest cliffhangers David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo's sci-fi epic leaves us on is actually a two-parter: What was the real meaning behind the "joke" told by Dr Ye Wenjie (Rosalind Chao) to Saul Durand (Jovan Adepo) on the park bench in Episode 7? And in what way could it help with Saul being made a "wallfacer" in the finale, one of three people tasked with plotting their own secret, internal scheme to best the approaching aliens? SEE ALSO: Netflix's final '3 Body Problem' trailer promises 'they are coming' We've poured over the clues to try and work it out. The first part of this article analyses the show itself, while the final part contains spoilers from Liu Cixin's Remembrance of Earth's Past novel trilogy, on which the show is based (we'll mark it with a spoiler warning in case you want to bow out then). What's the "joke" that Dr Ye Wenjie tells Saul?In episode 7, Wenjie is released from custody, exposed as the spiritual leader of the alien-worshipping Earth-Trisolaris Organization (ETO). Now that she knows the aliens she initially contacted all those years ago aren't coming to play nice, Wenjie contacts Saul and tells him a long, strange joke about Albert Einstein and God. Here's the joke, in full:"So Einstein dies. He finds himself in heaven, and he has his violin. He's overjoyed. He loves his violin more than physics. Even more than women. He's excited to find out how well he can play in heaven. He imagines he'll be pretty damn good. So he starts tuning up, and the angels rush at him. 'What are you doing?' they say. 'I'm getting ready to play.''Don't do that. God won't like it. He's a saxophonist.'So Einstein stops. He doesn't play. But it's difficult. He loves music. And there's actually not much to do in heaven. And sure enough, from high above, he hears the saxophone. He's playing 'Take the 'A' Train', do you know that one? Einstein knows it too. And he thinks, I'm going to do it. I'm going to play with him. We're going to sound great together. So he starts playing 'Take the 'A' Train'. The saxophone stops, and God appears. He marches over to Einstein and kicks him in the balls, which hurts, even in heaven. Then he smashes Einstein's beloved violin to bits. Eternity without music. Heaven has become hell for Einstein. And as he writhes on the ground, holding his smashed balls, an angel comes over and says: 'We warned you: Never play with God.'"Not exactly a rib-tickler, is it? But the point of the joke clearly isn't to make Saul laugh. There's a hidden meaning in there. The question is, what? What does Wenjie's

New Post: Could โTrue Detective: Night Countryโs tribute to โThe Thingโ be a clue for the rest of the season? - https://lnkd.in/gs6NwBmj - True Detective: Night Country is a terrifying tale of things gone awry at a research station in the icy wilderness. And in its very first episode, it pays tribute to an iconic horror story with a similar setting: John Carpenter's The Thing. As Night Country opens, a group of eight scientists have gone missing from the Tsalal Arctic Research Station, located 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Police chief Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) heads up to Tsalal to investigate, along with two of her subordinates: Hank Prior (John Hawkes) and his son Peter (Finn Bennett). SEE ALSO: 'True Detective: Night Country' review: A can't-miss mystery with ghostly bite While the trio look around the station, we get glimpses of what the scientists' lives looked like, including the movies they may have watched in their spare time. The Tsalal common area is lined with shelves of board games and DVDs. The collection is eclectic, with Kangaroo Jack, License to Wed, American Beauty, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy all taking up prime real estate on the entertainment center's shelves. But the most prominent DVD case featured is The Thing, which appears on a shelf behind Danvers as she's talking to Peter. In a small continuity error, The Thing actually moves up a shelf between shots, even turning outward so we can get a better look at the film's title and cover art: a man in a winter coat with light shining cryptically from his face. Basically, Night Country really wants us to see this small background detail. SEE ALSO: Watching 'True Detective: Night Country'? Chase it with this 'X-Files' episode. That's because the entire setup of the season feels like an homage to The Thing. Not only do we have the isolated research station (Night Country's is in the Arctic, while The Thing's is in Antarctica), but we also have hints that something supernatural may have played a part in the deaths of the scientists living there. Tsalal's scientists turn up frozen solid miles out on the ice. What could have gotten them all the way out there? And what did one of the scientists mean by, "she's back" in the moments before the station's power cut out?I'm not saying that the answer to True Detective: Night Country's biggest mystery is a shapeshifting alien organism like in The Thing. But in paying tribute to John Carpenter's horror classic, creator Issa Lรณpez may be drawing a connection between whatever the scientists at Tsalal are researching and the work of the researchers at The Thing's Thule Station, which unearthed the Thing itself. As to what the Tsalal scientists were doing, Peter hypothesizes they were searching for "the origin of life." And then Danvers replies sardonically with, "Oh. That thing." Tell m

I email a friend what I watch - if it is any good. She suggested I contribute to a magazine, but I thought I'd try this first to see what reaction I get. Silver and the Book of Dreamsย - Prime https://lnkd.in/gZBqww22 This is a premise I've not seen before but I don't do horror, not that this is horror, but it could have been. Here's the synopsis from IMDB:ย ย When Liv moves to London, she meets a mysterious group of boys who pull her into the world of dream-travel. She and her band of dream-wanderers conduct a ritual to make their biggest dream come true, but it demands the gravest sacrifice. It was decent but slower than I usually like. Theย main characters are teens in high school, but that didn't impact the story for me. It had some nice twists. The Diplomatย onย Primeย (https://lnkd.in/gvjq6_3u) is not the one with Keri Russel. It's strange that there are two shows coming out in the same year with the same name. This one is about theย UK consulate in Spain. The main characters help UK citizens when they have a problem. And there is a subplot that has yet to reveal itselfโwe are on episode 4. Some of the problems go through multiple episodes, and some just one. I think it is a well-done drama. I like the characters, but it is slow - so it is perfect for me to watch while working at night. If you find this helpful, give it a thumbs up.

https://lnkd.in/gZSMTKTH Down To Earth With Zac Efron Season 3: Lawsuit Against Series Delay 2023 Release? Down To Earth With Zac Efron Season 3: Netflix is home to various documentaries, but one of the recent additions is a bit different from a regular docuseries. Down To Earth With Zac Efron also falls in the same genre but is mostly regarded as a web documentary that debuted in 2020. The format of the show is distinct from its fellow series, and hence, one cannot predict how it can proceed the next moment. Moreover, the series has very well inculcated traveling aspects and natural beauty. The debut installment opened up to generally positive reviews and season 2 performed well too. Following the huge hit of the second season, fans are highly anticipating the arrival of Down To Earth With Zac Efron Season 3. Here’s what we know about it! ย ย ย Labeled as the brainchild of Zac Efron, the series features him alongside Darin Olien. Interestingly, both of them are executive producers as well. Talking more precisely, the documentary follows the traveling journey of Zac Efron. He travels to different countrie...
