#AVMA2024 has come to a terrific close and once again demonstrated the multitudinous opportunities it and other veterinary conferences provide for learning and engagement. For Banfield Associates, they had access to incredible continuing education (CE) to further their skills and bring back to their teams. All Banfield veterinarians and veterinary technicians receive CE funds and streamlined registration for select conferences like AVMA designed to make it as easy as possible for them to attend. Attendees interested in Banfield could stop by our booth and speak with Associates to get a sense for what it’s like to work with us. Our leaders got incredible face time with their peers in the industry, academic leaders and, importantly, our Associates. The opportunity to speak with Associates and get their perspectives in a unique setting outside our hospitals is incredibly valuable. They always walk away with new perspectives and action items that they work to address. A highlight for all Associates at #AVMA is the Banfield Associate reception, where we showcased Banfield’s unique culture – from our commitment to quality medicine and equity, inclusion & diversity to health & wellbeing, the Banfield Gives Back volunteer program, our charitable arm Banfield Foundation and more. Thank you to the Women's Veterinary Leadership Development Initiative and Veterinary Medical Association Executives (VMAE) for inviting Banfield leaders to speak at your respective events and AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) for a great conference. See you next year! #BanfieldPetHospital #BanfieldLife #BanfieldCareers #ProudlyMars #VeterinaryMedicine #VetMed #MarsVeterinaryHealth #VetStudent #Veterinarian #VetTech #Petcare #Vetcare #BanfieldCareers #ABetterWorldForPets #BanfieldLovesVTs #bHere #VeterinaryConference #BanfieldGivesBack #ContinuingEducation #CareerDevelopment #AVMA

Important Survey Findings: Addressing Workforce Challenges in the Veterinary Industry A recent survey by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) reveals a significant discussion about the role of credentialed veterinary technicians (CrVTs) versus the creation of a new midlevel practitioner (MLP) in the veterinary field. Key takeaways: 1) Survey Results: 61% of respondents are technicians, and there’s strong support for better utilizing CrVTs rather than creating an MLP. 2) AAVSB's Stance: They will focus on expanding the scope of practice for CrVTs, given the concerns around MLP implementation. 3) Concerns from VMG Survey: Practice owners expressed fears about MLPs impacting care quality, training adequacy, and potential risks. The data indicates a clear preference for maximizing the use of current veterinary technicians to address workforce shortages before considering new roles. My Thoughts: I believe that focusing on enhancing the role of CrVTs is a prudent approach. Given the current concerns around MLPs, it seems wise to fully utilize the talents and potential of our existing technicians. By expanding their scope of practice and improving their support, we can address workforce challenges more effectively and maintain high standards of care. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this approach. Do you agree with prioritizing CrVTs, or do you see a role for MLPs in the future? A little delayed but Happy New Year everyone! The last year or so I have worked on building. Building something with my friends. Building something for myself and my family. Building something to give back. Building something that will make an impact in my little corner of the veterinary world. 🌎 I’m so proud to say I now co-own 2 veterinary practices. Practices that will be used as a safe place within this industry. A place of growth and support no matter what position you are in within the practice. A place where all doctors, including foreign doctors, will find mentorship. A place to get people on their feet and sprout wings to fly. I spent the last year consulting with veterinary practices throughout Florida and the US. I put together a practice management series to provide support and easy to follow tips and resources that can be used in everyday practice. It was amazing and so much fun! I am grateful every single day I chose this path. I’m grateful for the people I meet and the life long relationships I have made. I’m blessed to have a husband that supports me and has also joined me on this journey! Thank you to every one who has believed in me and pushed me when I needed a push. The future is bright and I’m so excited to keep building and growing in 2024. I typically have a word of the year but this year will be a little different. This year it’s a few more words than one…… I want to keep growing myself within this industry. This will allow me to offer as much support as possible to as many as possible. #veterinarypracticeowner #veterinarymedicine #wordoftheyear #sentencesoftheyear #vetmed #vetmedicine #vetmedlife #support #growth #growthmindset #consulting #veterinaryprofessionals #vettechlife #practicemanager #practicemanagement

We're out here. Wheelbarrows of PE and VC money don't always result in companies built for the long haul. Where will all those companies be in 20 years? Many will probably no longer exist, being sold off, gobbled up or otherwise consolidated into oblivion due to the mandate of recaps, exits, and investor returns. Independents that choose not to sell are uniquely positioned to build truly resilient and innovative businesses that consider all stakeholders, not just return on investor capital.
Future of Vet Med - Buck the Trend The tentacles of private equity and multinationals have permiated into the very foundations of the veterinary industry. Governing bodies don’t have the financial means to challenge business practices that fail to follow the intentions or ‘spirit’ of loose regulations. Professional associations can experience higher enrollment as a result of influential non-veterinarian owned corporations that provide membership as a benefit. The association’s mandates painted by the brush of their corporate members. Veterinary students and their colleges being exposed to more lunch & learns, sponsored events, for example, with a corporate lining. The voice of independence getting quieter with every month and semester. Innovation and a variety of options for both clients and patients diminishing into much tinier pieces. I don’t see the veterinary industry rebounding quickly or at all when building one new independent clinic at a time. I see a renaissance coming from like minded, business oriented veterinarians collaborating together to build something that’s never been seen before!
