Questions about the Container Recycling Fee (CRF)?
The container recycling fee (CRF) is the amount beverage manufacturers are required to pay to cover the net cost of recovering and processing a used, non-refillable beverage container.

Hi 👋 Let’s have a conversation about our partnership with recycling affiliates to improve recovery rates, a crucial aspect of our sector's commitment to environmental responsibility.
For more than two decades, Canadian beverage companies and provincial and territorial beverage container recovery organizations have been collaborating to enhance the collection and recycling of beverage containers. This joint effort has not only led to a significant rise in the recovery rate of all beverage containers but also educated consumers, businesses, and governments about the importance of recycling these containers.

#DYK aluminum beverage cans are the most recycled beverage container in the United States? In 2020, Americans recycled nearly 46.7 billion aluminum beverage cans, generating nearly $700 million in revenue. Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) and its aluminum beverage can industry members are committed to raising the U.S. aluminum recycling rate from the current 45 percent to 70 percent by 2030, 80 percent by 2040, and more than 90 percent by 2050. Last year Coke pledged to sell 25% of its global beverage portfolio in reusables, but there’s a glaring hole in the US where the company has virtually no refillable bottles in circulation.
We're partnering with The Story of Stuff Project to urge Coke to prioritize reuse and refill, instead of single-use plastic, by:
1. Extending their 25% refill commitment to the US market
2. Pledging support for high-performing deposit return systems (bottle bills) that include refill quotas

#Aluminum cans are already the most recycled beverage container, and CanReseal® further enhances their recyclability! Globally, beverage cans see a 70% recycling rate, taking the crown over all other beverage packaging options.
Today, beverage cans cannot be made of 100% recycled content due to the pop-tab can ends requiring virgin aluminum to make their alloy. CanReseal® eliminates the need for a pop-tab, potentially opening the doors to a 100% recycled content beverage can! A beverage can made from a singular alloy is a win for the industry, consumers, and the environment!
A big thanks to Can Manufacturers Institute for the awesome infographic below and all that they do for the canning industry!

The wave of change is washing over the U.S. container waste landscape! Container Recycling Institute's President Susan V. Collins testified on September 28 to a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works on policies to improve the domestic collection of single-use beverage containers - including a national deposit return system (DRS, aka bottle bill).
As Susan said during her testimony:
"The inability to effectively recycle beverage containers in most U.S. states is increasingly contributing to our plastic pollution, marine debris and climate crises. However, we know that one solution works - deposit return systems, or DRS, which enable consumers to return empty bottles and cans to a redemption location and receive back the deposit they paid upon purchase. Decades of data show that these systems are the single most effective way to increase container recycling rates, reduce associated litter and marine debris, lower energy use, avoid greenhouse gas emissions, decrease waste collection and landfilling costs, and provide more high-quality scrap that manufacturers need to make new products. A national DRS would also maximize the recycling of beverage containers to support economic growth and create new domestic manufacturing jobs." Canit welcomes this news and can't wait to help make the U.S. deposit return systems accessible to all. In comments a link to the entire testimony.
