WATCH: One team, one goal! Our missions with Bridges to Prosperity are life-changing, not just for the thousands of people who benefit from the bridges we build, but also for the Balfour Beatty teammates who experience these unforgettable trips. The Gihinga trail bridge, which our team built last year, connected more than 4,000 residents to vital community resources like schools, markets and health centers. Hear from Gihinga community members and Balfour Beatty teammates on what this incredible build meant to them. #BridgestoProsperity#BuildingNewFutures
I have spent the past ten months working alongside 9 other incredible local #peacebuilders. This Global Peacebuilding Campaign that we co-created will highlight the effectiveness and necessity of local #peacebuilding while calling for more international support and educating the bigger system about the realities of local peacebuilding.
For me, peace starts when we normalize the discussion on mental health among #peacebuilders -- this will strengthen our resilience and effectiveness which is essential for sustainable peacebuilding efforts.
And for you? Where does peace start?

Peace is longer lasting when local peacebuilding efforts are better supported. It takes a whole community to build peace and if the solution to conflict is community, then peacebuilding must belong to the community.
So, let’s trust local communities to support and lead it.
🌍10 local peacebuilders have spent the past 10 months co-creating a global peacebuilding campaign and we can now share their work with you.
Hundreds of thousands of peacebuilders are paving the way for lasting peace in their communities. Yet still they’re not being seen, heard, and recognised in those communities and by the wider world.
If local peacebuilders are seen, heard, and recognised, then our peacebuilding efforts will be better supported.

📍Peace Starts Here.
The journey to get to Peace Starts Here started with 10 people; 10 local peacebuilders that co-created a campaign together. Some of them have lived through conflict and war and were born into it. Some others are still living with the effects and trauma of violence, but all of them work day and night to build peace from within the community, and sustain it for generations to come .
In February 2023, the ten local peacebuilders came together to co-create a global campaign for local peacebuilding from scratch. The journey took 10 months, more than 40 Zoom calls, more than 100 hours of meetings, and what felt like a thousand Miro boards and worksheets. It started with silly getting-to-know-each-other activities, and a lot of "please unmute, we can't hear you". Gradually, week by week, the conversations became more contemplative and sober. We heard about what led each co-creator to peacebuilding, about their communities, and about their blockers and enablers in the peacebuilding system. They shared and listened. With each story and discussion, we inched closer to a shared understanding that the lack of recognition of local peacebuilders and their efforts has devastating impacts on the sustainability of any peace efforts in their communities. With that in mind, it became clearer than ever that: Peace Starts Here. It starts with local peacebuilders and with local peacebuilding.
Peace Starts Here has only just begun and there's so much more to look forward to in 2024. As the Campaign's Coordinator, I am inviting you all to join our movement: https://lnkd.in/gntFgAS2
I also want to use this opportunity to shout my gratitude to everyone who was part of this journey 💌 : Peace Direct for always putting local first; Irene and Rozana for bringing us all closer together; Kelly and Rachel for your endless creativity; and Ruth, my partner in crime, for your calmness and solutions.
And of course, a lot of gratitude to our 10 co-creators. They are light and light ☀️. Sweet and sincere ✨. Funny and fearless 💫. They are so full of ideas that it sometimes gets difficult to organise all of it in one document. I want to brag about them at any chance I'm given, so I'll be using the comments below to share a little about them and their work👇🏽

Why do we pretend that sovereign peoples of Whitefish didn’t not know the history of Rupert’s Land and the realities of Dominion of Canada replacing the arrangement of Hudson Bay Company. After 1863, under new management of “the International Financial Society did shipments and volume of alcohol increase to induce Chiefs to sign Treaty or was it a different strategy? I am sure the sovereign citizen of Whitefish knew the undertaking on “Indian Land on the Great Manitoulin Island”in the Dominion of Canada. We know Henry Bird Steinhauer (Ojibwa -Bird Clan) maintained contact with clan members and family with visits. So, is the current consultation process false reconciliation until Rupert’s Land is properly restored? #landback#truthandreconciliation

International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance
On April 4th, we observe the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. This significant day was established by the United Nations in 2005 to raise awareness about landmines and the ongoing efforts to eliminate them.
Mines, explosive remnants of war, and improvised explosive devices continue to cause death and injury, especially in situations of armed conflict. On average, one person is killed or injured every hour, with many children among the victims.
The focus of this year’s commemoration is on disabled survivors of explosive hazards and all people with disabilities living through conflicts. The campaign emphasizes the importance of considering and protecting persons with disabilities in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
Let us work together to ensure that “nothing about us, without us” remains our guiding principle in peace and security deliberations, aspirations, and missions.

The process of receiving grants for peacebuilding initiatives and effectively addressing the main problems affecting community's security and peace requires a thorough assessment and careful consideration of intervention strategies. In allocating peacebuilding grants, it is essential to recognize the different stages of conflict in the community, including the pre-conflict, during-conflict, and post-conflict phases. Each stage necessitates distinct interventions and approaches. Therefore, in order to understand the unique dynamics and specific needs of the community, conducting inclusive and conflict-sensitive context assessments, scoping missions, consultation workshops, and other key preparatory actions further enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of peacebuilding efforts.
This is one of the key things I learned from my past grassroots peacebuilding interventions.

This is so so important!
Indigenius biodiversity & spirit of the land knowledge garnered over 60,000 years.
A no brainer.. of course Indigenous Australians should be the centre starting point for all major land discussions & biodiversity protection. 🌏

We're creating 12 new Indigenous Protected Areas! These new Indigenous Protected Areas will mean local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will have the opportunity to manage and care for Country.
Importantly, the Indigenous Rangers Program will help to close the gap by giving First Nations people work on country.
This is good for jobs, good for the environment, and it’s good for culture.
We are excited to announce the upcoming new guidance on "Integrating MHPSS and Peacebuilding" produced by the thematic group on Peacebuilding of the IASC RG MHPSS. 𝐇𝐨𝐧. Linda Burney, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐧—Empowering Indigenous Communities: Australia's Commitment to Creating New Indigenous Protected Areas
In a significant announcement, Hon. Linda Burney, the Minister for Indigenous Australians and Member for Barton, revealed plans to establish 12 new Indigenous Protected Areas (IPAs). These initiatives are set to empower local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by providing them with the opportunity to take on a crucial role in the management and preservation of their traditional lands.
The establishment of these new IPAs represents a significant step towards recognizing and honoring the deep connection that Indigenous peoples have with their ancestral lands. To that, granting Indigenous communities the responsibility to care for Country, these initiatives not only promote environmental conservation but also uphold the cultural heritage and traditions of First Nations peoples.
One of the key initiatives supporting this endeavor is the Indigenous Rangers Program, which plays a vital role in bridging the gap and creating employment opportunities for First Nations people. Moreover, ngaging Indigenous Australians in meaningful work on their traditional lands, this program not only addresses socio-economic disparities but also fosters a sense of pride and ownership over Country.
Significantly, the implementation of these new IPAs and the expansion of the Indigenous Rangers Program signify a holistic approach to environmental stewardship, job creation, and cultural preservation. The positive impact of these initiatives extends beyond economic benefits, as they contribute to the protection of Australia's unique biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable land management practices.
In addition, the collaborative efforts between the government and Indigenous communities underscore a commitment to reconciliation, empowerment, and respect for Indigenous knowledge systems. Also, working together to protect and preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Australia, these initiatives pave the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future for all Australians.
As Australia continues to prioritize the empowerment and self-determination of Indigenous communities, the establishment of new Indigenous Protected Areas serves as a testament to the government's commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships and promoting Indigenous-led conservation efforts. Through these collective endeavors, we not only enhance environmental resilience but also strengthen the social fabric of our nation, embracing diversity and cultural richness for generations to come.

There is a challenge brewing in business where sellers are doing their best to push customers to do more on their behalf.
Retailers pushing self-check-outs, suppliers attempting to force businesses to engage their staff to assist with invoice deliveries and other related tasks.
People may wonder why I declined to provide these services to our suppliers at no charge, well here it is.
I don't shop at your store because I don't wish to do it myself. Use your self-checkout service and then be harassed to show you my receipt so I can leave your store. That is not 'customer service '.
In business we don't pay our staff to go to your portals an retrieve your invoices.
So we are currently working to get rid of suppliers like Kaseya and Pax8.
Why?
Emancipation was the day people of African decent stopped working for anyone for free! So I enforce the message and learn from it.
At DPD Software Ltd. our team is not stressed to go help suppliers deliver invoices, they either get it to us by email or regular post as my team pay bills they receive at their desks.
Small businesses may feel you are too small to push back. If a supplier wishes you to provide the service to go get the invoice they are required to provide you with, charge them an administrative fee to cover your cost. If not, you are introducing more costs to your bottom line, so they can cut their costs.

On August 1, 1834, the Slavery Abolition Act took effect and laid a pathway to the liberation of over 800,000 enslaved Africans in Canada, the Caribbean, South America, and South Africa.
I was honoured to share a few words today encouraging our communities to learn about ALL of Canada’s history.
I was also equally honoured to share the stage with my father Rev. Dr. Milton Chambers who recounted his experiences leaving Jamaica to England and from England to Canada.
My son Quinton Chambers also spoke providing the perspective of the next generation to continue educating the public while building resiliency. #emancipationday
