Since working with Feeding The Change, I feel like every day of work matters! Globally, #Stunting reduced from over 33% to less than 23% in children <5y between 2000 and 2022. Nevertheless, this means there are still 150M children <5y stunted in our world, and we know nearly half of all deaths <5y are attributable to #Undernutrition 🙁 Unfortunately, Mozambique has not seen such a positive improvement as other countries in the region, and recent data suggests stunting still affects well over 30% of children <5y. I do hope our Research & Implementation work keeps contributing to positively change this reality 💪 #FeedingTheChange
👏 During the week of October 16 to 20, our Partnership & Innovation Director, Sofia Costa, had the privilege of participating as a speaker in the Micronutrient Forum 6th Global Conference in The Hague!👏 This conference aimed to help shape and establish a compelling and evidence-based agenda on the interdependence of nutrition and resilience. Sofia was part of a panel discussing the conference topic on 'Program Implementation and Effectiveness' where she had the opportunity to present an oral presentation on a study she conducted with Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) for USAID-Transform Nutrition entitled 'Chicken provision to increase access to animal-source foods among internally displaced persons in northern Mozambique - an Implementation Research study.' This panel, titled 'Bridging Implementation and Science: Lessons Learned in Designing and Delivering Micronutrient Programs for Impact and Scale,' was exceptionally moderated by Mduduzi Mbuya and featured incredible experts like Chowdhury Jalal, nilima azad, Tareq Hasan, Wendy Gonzalez, and Jacqueline Kung'u, PhD 💪 We learned a lot during these days, and plan to bring a renewed expertise to our daily work! At Feeding the Change, we are strong advocates for formative and implementation research that improves project outcomes, and this conference provided an excellent opportunity to advance our mission of driving positive change through evidence-based initiatives. #MicronutrientForum #NutritionResearch #FeedingTheChange 🌍🤝

Join us in the PhysioHub at the American Physiology Summit (#APS2024) for a Research Diets workshop! Title: Laboratory Animal Diets: An Important, but Often Neglected Variable That Critically Impacts In Vivo Research Speakers: Sridhar Iyer, PhD, Senior Scientist, Research Diets Dushyant Kshatriya, PhD, Project Manager and Scientist, Research Diets Time and Location: -Saturday, April 6, 2024 -4:15 p.m. PDT -PhysioHub-Exploration Stage Summary: Diet has a profound effect on the rodent phenotype and the gut microbiome and is a variable that is commonly overlooked especially by those not trained in nutrition. It is very common to find that the diet is not well-defined in the methods sections of publications and this limits reproducibility of studies. This workshop will discuss the different types of diets available to researchers, critical factors present in diets that can influence study outcomes, and why choosing mismatched control and experimental diets can confound data interpretation. We will also briefly introduce dietary approaches to model obesity and metabolic disease (including MASH – Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis) in rodents. https://lnkd.in/eWhWRvbj https://lnkd.in/evuCu3fj
