Every year during February, Black History Month is an opportunity to celebrate the rich, vibrant and important history, culture, and contributions of the Black community. Balchem honors the incredible accomplishments, but we also acknowledge the many challenges that remain. It is critical that we help raise awareness and shine a light on the needs of Black community and the continuing struggle against injustice. We can do this through support for organizations that promote education, awareness, and health and wellness. Balchem is committed building a company culture that embraces our social responsibility as we strive to make our world a healthier, and more just, place. #blackhistorymonth #belongingatbalchem

As we step into Black History Month, let's celebrate the immeasurable impact of Black excellence across every sphere of society. From the inventive genius of Garrett Morgan, who gifted us the traffic light, to the poetic prowess of Maya Angelou, whose words traverse the landscape of the human soul, the contributions of Black individuals have been both profound and transformative. Innovation in science and technology, spirited narratives in arts and literature, groundbreaking achievements in sports, and pioneering leadership in business—each domain is rich with stories of resilience, creativity, and perseverance. Figures like George Washington Carver, Serena Williams, and Madam C.J. Walker are not just icons of Black history; they are pillars of our collective human journey. This month let's not only reflect on the past achievements but also ignite conversations about inclusivity, equality, and the ongoing contributions of Black professionals in our industries. Their legacy is a beacon that lights our way forward, reminding us that our strength lies in diversity, our progress in unity. #BlackHistoryMonth #DiversityInIndustry #Innovation #Resilience #Excellence

Black History Month is a time to spotlight and celebrate the honorable contributions, achievements, and culture of Black Americans and their communities. However, these efforts should be applied year-round. Fortunately, at DeVry, we can lean into our business resource groups, including the Association of Black Colleagues (ABC), to enable continuous learning by going deeper into discussions and making meaningful connections. From my perspective, as a collective – organizations, businesses, and society as a whole – can acknowledge and support the significance of Black History beyond the month of February. #BlackHistoryMonth Learn more here: https://devry.ly/3T3PCcn

Please join us in celebrating the amazing history and contributions of the Black Community all month long! We invite you to embrace Black History Month at your organization and find different ways to celebrate with your staff. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Cater a celebration lunch for your staff with a few different dishes from local Black owned restaurants. Have a presentation on Black History or a topic to foster learning and discussion during the lunch. 2. Send out weekly emails highlighting one or two contributions or historical events from the Black Community. Include a list of recommended books by Black authors that coincide with the email highlight. 3. Send out a list of local Black History events and encourage your staff to attend. Then ask them to share something they learned. 4. Foster an inclusive environment where your staff is encouraged to share about their culture with others in the office, and where they are encouraged to ask and learn about the cultures of others. 5. Highlight your Black staff members through short biographies that include some of their specific contributions to the organization and things they wish to share about their family, history, and culture. These are just a few of the many ways you can celebrate Black History Month at your organization to help inspire discussion and promote inclusion within your team. #blackhistorymonth #blackbusiness #blackexcellence #inclusion #diversity #blackauthors

Ibstock Plc, one of our Strategic Partners, is leading the way in celebrating Black History with their video series. The video series explores the common misconceptions and questions about the black community in a safe and comfortable space, such as: - Punctuality is a social construct - it varies from country to country. So don’t assume people are being rude if they are frequently late – you just have to explain that punctuality is important in our British culture. - In many Black Cultures, eye contact is thought to be disrespectful or rude and lack of eye contact does not mean the person is not paying attention. Ibstock received fantastic feedback and their openness and honesty when creating the series. It’s brilliant to see and hear the active initiatives our Partners are rolling out to promote DEI in their organisations and the positive ripple effect it will have in the industry!
