I once worked for an organization that initiated 'People Month'. As a young HR leader, I railed against 'just one month' being focused on people. What I learned however, is that that one month provided an opportunity to elevate the conversation about people, people strategy, value and recognition and proved a great catalyst for positive momentum. Like 'people month', Pride month brings a focus but genuine commitment to inclusion is ongoing. Here are some good tips to help employers maintain that momentum to provide a place where people feel that they belong and can bring their best selves to work.
Pride Month has just come to an end, but this doesn't mean that the commitment to LGBTQ inclusion should! Of course, you have that weird aunt or grumpy uncle but at the end of the day - regardless of race, gender, religious beliefs, sexuality, etc. Everyone loves eachother and supports eachother through those difficult calls. Having to hide who you are can be extremely exhausting. That is why #TeamBSH fosters a culture that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion. By doing this, we create a safe work environment, where every individual can be their true selves and thrive. During our Diversity Days, Víctor Lorenzo and FRANCK OLIVES, core members of our LGBTQ employee network "Colors of BSH", hosted the session "Being Me at Work." Their goal was to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community and cultivate allyship and openness among colleagues. 🌈 They shared actions that individuals can take to embrace their authentic selves at the workplace, such as coming out to trusted colleagues or mentioning their partner when discussing their leisure. Allies are crucial in supporting LGBTQ individuals, standing in solidarity with them. Being an ally is an ongoing process of learning, challenging biases, and taking action.
