Ethical recruitment doesn't stop once a candidate starts their new job. Your new member of staff is going to need support, training, and time to get to grips with new systems etc. I am no fan of the phrase 'hit the ground running' in recruitment - how about 'stand still and learn the ropes until you feel confident to walk and we will support you to fly'? If you don't look after your new recruit they will leave (and there are plenty of other charities looking for good fundraisers right now) and you will be back to square one. We talk about 'supporter journeys' and 'lifetime value' when it comes to donors - what if we applied this to fundraising teams? If your motivation is slanted towards the extrinsic become a ‘salesman’. If your motivation is largely intrinsic become a charity worker. If you can blend the two without diminishing either. Work with or within Social Recruitment. #doinggoodisgoodbusiness

Have you doom scrolled for 30mins? Be like CW and get strategic clarity instead. CW was on senior team of a charity. They had some knotty issues to think through. Stakeholders. Consensus building. Engaging networks. I offered a 1:1 strategy session to help them. They booked a session. My first strategy call to a director in a Mountain log cabin. 30mins of exploring the issues. Landowners Public engagement. Listening. Questions. A different perceptive. Breaking up group think for fresh ways forward. More productive than doomscrolling- that’s for sure. For growing your business as a self-employed team leader: 1-Specialize in a niche. This will help you attract clients who are looking for your specific expertise. 2-Build a strong personal brand. Your personal brand is your reputation. Make sure you're projecting a positive and professional image. 3-Be active in your community. Get involved in local organizations and events. This is a great way to network and build relationships with potential clients. 4-Give back to your community. Volunteer your time or donate to charity. This is a great way to make a difference and build goodwill. 5-Never give up. Building a successful business takes time and effort. Don't get discouraged if you don't see results overnight. Just keep working hard and you will eventually achieve your goals.
