Love this Women in Asset Management program at Ivey Business School at Western University. The stats and the aspirations say it all: The proportion of female portfolio managers in Canada has remained basically unchanged from 1990, Patel said. According to a 2022 report from Morningstar, there are some 1,284 male portfolio managers in Canada versus 175 female ones, or seven to one. Ivey’s goal is to get the proportion up to 30% by 2030, which Patel said is a “lofty” target. “It has never been about lack of talent,” he said. “It’s about interest [and] public exposure.” We could not agree more. WHY YOU SHOULDN’T JOIN A BUSINESS SCHOOL I have asked to a lot of my colleagues and friends what has been their main driver in applying to top-tier business schools, and the answer I always got has been: so I can get into Consulting or Investment Banking. Don’t get me wrong, when you are paying 20 to 30k a year, you expect something valuable in return, to enhance your chance and possibility of being recruited by the best companies in the sector. But aren’t we all reducing university to a tool, an instrument for our purposes? Being part of a university should be about getting to know new people, exchange opinions and different views of the world’s most pressing matters, discovering new cultures and traditions, and I could go on and on. The point is, I think we should stop exploiting buisiness schools, and start living them as a beautiful life experience. #business #universities #management #escp #networking
