November 2020 immersive. was born. Middle of a global pandemic, Brexit was still a problem, and the global economy had stopped. Perfect time to make the jump from employment to start-up land. The solution I arrived at was an embedded recruitment business based in Tallinn, Estonia. The first 3 months yielded lots of conversations, but no clients until Jan 21 hit… *Not a huge point to this post, it’s more of a public diary entry… I’m told this sort of thing is cathartic. Reflecting on my first six months at Bridging Divides, I feel a sense of accomplishment. I often get asked what I am doing as an Innovation Specialist in a migration research program. At TMU, we are committed to promoting innovation in every aspect. We have university accelerators, 11 Innovation Zones (where I previously worked), and professionals like me who joined research departments to bring more innovation into their projects. I am happy that we are expanding our team, and I will continue all our current projects in my new position at CERC in Migration and Integration with Bridging Divides collaboration. How will we enhance innovation in our research to tackle immigration challenges? 1. We focus on exploring New Technologies: We're delving into how emerging technologies and digital tools can empower immigrants to overcome their challenges. What specific technologies can immigrant communities, service provider organizations, and the government embrace to facilitate immigrant settlement and integration? 2. High-Tech Research Methods: Designing collaborative research initiatives between startups and research teams to develop products and policy changes that help immigrants have a better experience in Canada. 3. Entrepreneurship Programs: Creating programs and competitions to inspire students with technical backgrounds to understand immigrant challenges and develop high-tech solutions. 4. Highlighting Startups: Showcasing startups focused on social innovation and immigration challenges.

👋 Hallo DACH! Tons of inspirational people and discussions under one roof. That was the Stammtisch Wien event organized by Paul G. Putz and Peter Helesic from Danube Angels. Our Martina Pokorna introduced ARTIN to the representatives of Austrian startup tech companies, innovators, and investors. We are glad that our services resonated with the audience and that we had a chance to connect with bright minds such as Scott Galvao from circuly. It is a widespread stereotype (among many others) that nearshoring software development is suitable for big companies only. It doesn’t matter whether you have 5 IT employees, or 50 or 200. It is more about the right timing. Nearshoring whole projects or even just a part of your software development is always a good idea if: 🔸 you need additional hands but hiring new employees and their onboarding would be too time-consuming, 🔸 you are searching for developers with specific skills that are difficult to find on the market, 🔸 you need to speed up development to reach milestones in time, 🔸 you have reached a dead end and need guidance through the whole software development process.
