In Malaysia, the media industry has significantly contracted, overshadowed by the rise of clickbait-driven websites, many of which repurpose original and well planned content from established media agencies. So when you approach journalists, you must have a really good story and for this, you must understand the local media landscape and the asks and wants from the media fraternity here. One also needs to identify the right media agency to carry a story effectively. Spray-and-pray technique WILL NOT WORK. It is ineffective and indicative of a lack of understanding and commitment to fostering genuine relationships with the media. This is usually a problem when clients are overpromised-at the expense of journalists, and the agency's own credibility.
