I recommend reading this new article from our Global Impact Equities portfolio manager Tom Atkinson, CFA at AXA Investment Managers. In it he elaborates on new developments within the challenges faced to counter, or at least slow climate change and biodiversity loss. The conclusion with which he ends his article, is that ultimately, there will not be a single technological silver bullet but rather a multitude of solutions which truly take the fight to climate change and biodiversity loss. And that all efforts which can improve processes, efficiency, design and construction across industries will add to CO₂ reduction efforts, and in turn, create new potential investment opportunities. Interested to read your reactions to his views. "Houston, we have a problem" Close to $7 trillion is invested globally each year in activities that have a direct negative impact on nature from both public and private sector sources - equivalent to roughly 7 per cent of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The report finds that in 2022, investments in nature-based solutions totaled approximately $200 billion, but finance flows to activities directly harming nature were more than 30 times larger. It exposes a concerning disparity between the volumes of finance to nature-based solutions and nature-negative finance flows, and underscores the urgency to address the interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. #sustainablefinance
