Today marks the completion of 39 years since I started my investigative career. Tomorrow is day 1 of my 40th year as an investigator. I've worked on cases in over 30 different countries and made some lifelong friends along the way. Three quick thoughts to share as I look back over the past 4 decades 1. Integrity and ethics are an investigators most valuable asset. Trust is fragile and once lost, it's ultra-difficult to regain - this applies to stakeholders, suspects, witnesses and colleagues. Don't be tempted to trade your values for short term gain - the cost is too high. 2. No one knows everything and you can learn from all your colleagues, no matter their experience levels - that's why it is important to build a team with a range of different talents who are prepared to work for one another and watch each others backs - I've always been lucky to have great teams and my colleagues at Deloitte #Forensic #philippines are no exception, in fact they are awesome! 3. Embrace technology - it makes us more precise, faster, more cost effective and gives us analytical capabilities that I couldn't have imagined as a young Police Officer on a squad at Scotland Yard. It enables us to present evidence in a visually engaging manner and with the rapid development of AI tools combined with the increasing reach of OSINT, investigative techniques are being transformed - although, you also have to recognize that criminals have access to these tools and technologies too!
