Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay, highlighting the urgent need for our generation to restore health to damaged environments. We are passionate about the environment and wildlife protection. Through our projects and on behalf of our customers, we promote biodiversity, protect and enhance habitats for various species, and work diligently towards decarbonising our value chain. Additionally, we support and invest in accredited emission mitigation activities that extend beyond our value chain, particularly those generating co-benefits for people and nature. For example, the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve REDD project in Indonesia protects threatened peatland rainforest on the southern coast of Borneo, preventing its conversion to palm oil plantations. While we cannot turn back time, we can grow forests, revive water sources, and restore soils. We are the generation that can make peace with the land. Together, we can achieve #GenerationRestoration and secure a sustainable future for all.

WWF is deeply concerned by the recent oil spill at the Pasir Panjang Terminal. The incident on Friday has significantly impacted marine and coastal ecosystems, with oil washing up on the coastlines of East Coast Park, Sentosa, and other areas. Oil spills degrade water quality and threaten marine ecosystems by causing habitat loss and contaminating vital resources. They also harm marine life through physical smothering, suffocation, and chemical toxicity, disrupting key species and habitats. WWF commends the swift response of authorities and local community groups in Singapore. We have extended our offer of support and will continue to monitor the situation. This incident highlights the critical link between healthy ecosystems and human well-being, emphasising the need for coordinated inter-agency and community strategies to prevent future incidents. Together, we must protect our precious marine resources.

Indeed Catherine Jadot, PhD , the #CoralBond is an innovative next generation model of #SustainableInvestment. Launched with the funding support from the PROBLUE and Indonesia Oceans, Marine Debris and Coastal Resources Multi-Donor Trust Funds, the World Bank, the Government of Indonesia, the Global Environment Facility, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and BNP Paribas, the #CoralBond goes beyond the traditional CRS approaches by proposing the world’s #FirstImpactBond for coral reef conservation to link financial returns to independently verified conservation and biodiversity outcomes. This represents a novel approach in #ConservationFinancing that passes project risks to capital market investors and allows donors to pay for conservation outcomes. Building on a quarter-century legacy of coral reef conservation and community impact initiatives, the Coral Bond is aimed to contribute at closing the significant gap in financing Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water).

Deforestation, excessive development, and lack of conservation lead to the extinction.
