Had a great time at the annual Advances in Data Science & AI Conference 2024 in Manchester
It’s the first academic conference I’ve attended in a while and, although there were no talks related to AI in audit, it was great to see all of the new exciting use cases that are being developed across the broad fields within data science. From advancements in natural and programming language models to how AI is changing how we humans interact with robots, the conference touched on a range of research topics.
Data in audit can come in many forms. There are many different data types and in some cases it can be unstructured. It was interesting to explore the latest advances in AI across different fields outside of audit as these fields also face the same challenges, even if the end goals are different.
In particular, some talks touched on the common difficulty of using electronic health records as data sources in healthcare. One talk that addressed this was by Prof Sotirios Tsaftaris’s on the Role of Casual AI in personalised Medicine. As well as being a fantastic speaker, the talk inspired some ideas which could be used to improve to improve audit quality using AI.
All in all, a very enjoyable day and was great to catch up with old colleagues from my PhD days who happened to also attend! I will be back in 2025 😄
