This testimonial is special and not just because Dennis landed a product manager job at Venmo, but what most people don’t know is that Dennis is one of the hardest working people I have ever met in this whole industry. Here are some stats for y’all. Dennis applied to 100 to 200 jobs a day back in the 2023 holiday season. He averaged 25 interviews a week. He secured 5 product manager offers in less than 4 months back to back to back AND HOLDS THE RECORD FOR THE HIGHEST TOTAL COMP OFFER in the 7-year span of Product Gym. He represents all the values we stand for here at Product Gym and continues to support and inspire other Product Gym members as a coach even though he doesn’t have to. He never complains, always finds new hacks, and never holds back his knowledge from the community. When people ask me what they are buying from Product Gym, you’re buying a community of elite and high-performing individuals that are just exceptional. Dennis even helped me with my move when I left New York. How does he find the time? I really don’t know. I love his story because he proved to the community that it was possible to land 20 interviews a week, secure 5 offers, and bag the big offer with a big name. The average salaries for Product Gym in 2024 went up as a result of Dennis just crushing every metric. And that’s what people need beyond skills right now, is confidence. You need to see evidence of success to know winning is possible, because getting a product manager job in 2024 is ALL MENTAL. Schedule a call with us immediately to join Product Gym before our price increase goes into effect on 7/28. https://bit.ly/3WkFZYv Please share his story as a source of inspiration for all those struggling to land a job and because Dennis deserves the recognition. PS We are getting blown up because of how many success stories we are posting on YouTube and if you don’t already know we are increasing our fees to be a member at Product Gym. There are simply too many people to help and we just don’t have enough time. So please schedule a call with us here if you would like to talk about joining our program. https://bit.ly/3WkFZYv We are more than happy to walk you through step by step how are process works and why it’s been so effective and work out a payment plan should you need one, but the proof is on our YouTube channel. Let’s make this the last time you ever have to apply for a product manager job. My new mission is to help product managers build a brand so they never have to apply to jobs again or be held hostage by just one income stream. Companies also think twice before bullying or laying off a product manager with a brand too 😉 We are halfway filled up. Please schedule a call soon or ping me directly if you can find an opening. https://bit.ly/3WkFZYv #productmanagement #productmanagementjobhunt #productmanagementcareers #productgymfam

As a product manager at ZEE, I've realised that effective collaboration with cross-functional teams is the cornerstone of successful product development. It's not just about bringing together different expertise from engineering, design, marketing, and sales; it's about fostering a culture of open communication, aligned goals, and shared ownership. In my experience, breaking down silos and creating a collaborative environment is essential for bringing products to life. Here are a few key practices that have helped me achieve this: 1. Establish clear communication channels: Regular meetings, shared workspaces, and instant messaging tools are crucial for keeping everyone on the same page. 2. Define common goals and objectives: Ensure everyone understands the overall product vision and how their specific contributions fit into the bigger picture. 3. Embrace diverse perspectives: Encourage open feedback and discussion to leverage the collective knowledge and expertise of the team. 4. Celebrate successes together: Recognise and reward team achievements to foster a sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment. 5. Address conflicts constructively: When disagreements arise, approach them as opportunities for learning and improvement. By fostering a collaborative environment, we can harness the collective power of cross-functional teams to bring innovative and impactful products to life. #product #zee

Leaving my job as a senior product manager in tech felt eerily similar to the emotions I experienced when I came out. It reminded me of Milan Kundera's notion in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" – the paradoxical feeling of liberation mixed with a profound sense of emptiness. Coming out was a declaration of my true self, a shedding of a facade. Yet, with this newfound freedom came a void, an identity that I had to reconstruct from scratch. I was stepping into a world with no roadmap, questioning everything from my relationships to my personal values. Years later, when I chose to leave my tech job, a similar sensation washed over me. This role had defined me for so long; it was my safety net, my identity. Stepping away meant not just leaving a job, but also parting with a part of myself. The relief of leaving a high-pressure job was coupled with a sense of loss – who was I outside the confines of this industry? In both instances, structured activities became my anchor. After coming out, I threw myself into training for a half marathon. The discipline of training, the clear milestones, and the physical exertion were therapeutic. They filled the void with something tangible and rewarding. Similarly, after leaving my job, I dedicated myself to writing a book and immersing myself in literature. This period of introspection and creative expression became a journey of self-discovery. Writing helped me articulate my thoughts and experiences, while reading provided new perspectives and insights. These pursuits did more than just fill my time; they were a means of redefining my identity. They allowed me to set goals, mark achievements, and regain a sense of accomplishment. My social circles expanded, introducing me to diverse individuals who provided both inspiration and support. What I learned from these experiences is the transformative power of structured activities during times of personal upheaval. They offer a way to channel energies positively, create new identities, and discover purposes beyond the roles we leave behind. Engaging in these activities isn't just about keeping busy; it's about actively shaping a new chapter in life, one where the lightness of being is both a freedom and a path to finding oneself anew.

One of my SXSW Sydney highlights was getting the chance to pick Alex Skougarevskaya's brilliant mind on scaling product teams! 🌱My cliff notes: 1. Approach design crits with curiosity and lots of 'Whys' - guide your designers to think through their process, their reasoning and the link between their solution and the problem. 2. As the product owner (and a founder) you have to scale your expertise skill set so that the product grows irrespective of your presence and the team builds independence. 3. Before hiring, start with a skills audit of the team and for small product teams - find T shaped generalists who are ready to roll their sleeves, learn and constantly pivot.

At Easter, I finished up a 3-month engagement as a fractional Chief Product Officer with the delightful team at FileInvite. Working with the team just two days a week, we made an incredible amount of progress on a number of critical milestones in just one quarter. - We brought the customer into the centre of our decision-making - stepping up discovery on our ICP, recruiting strategic design capability, and going deep on our customers’ commercials and FI’s economic value. - We aligned leadership on critical goals and strategic intents for the year ahead and collaborated cross-functionally to progress a shared, focused programme of work. - We refreshed key value propositions and created a long-term product vision and strategy that traversed geographic markets and customer segments. - We developed a new packaging hypothesis for validation and price testing with customers. - We defined business value and used Cost of Delay to inform prioritisation and focus efforts on what matters most. - SLT obtained the confidence of the board for the new strategy. 🙌 - And we had a heck of a lot of fun! (Well I did, anyway 😅) Loved working with you James Sampson, Alan Vieira, James McGeorge, Kristen Patel, Talya Avram and Michael Chang. 💛 But... all good things must come to an end, so from late April I have 8-16 hours/week available to help another tech company chart their course for growth. 🚀 If you're in Australia or NZ and need help with product vision and strategy, spearheading a critical project, helping your senior team lead through change, or lifting commercial acumen in your product team to better connect customer value with business value, please get in touch. I'd love to chat. Caption: A somewhat terrifying vibrant office scene with happy professionals handling documents and closing deals, from Dall-E.
