On May 6, 1937, the aviation world witnessed a catastrophic event that would forever alter the course of air travel. The Hindenburg, a German passenger airship, erupted into flames while attempting to dock at the Naval Air Station Lakehurst in New Jersey, USA. This tragedy not only claimed the lives of 36 people but also marked the beginning of the end for airship travel, paving the way for the dominance of fixed-wing aircraft. In the aftermath, there was a swift decline in airship usage for passenger travel. The risk associated with hydrogen-filled airships, combined with the growing capabilities of airplane technology, led to airships being almost entirely phased out for commercial passenger use. Instead, they were used for advertising, surveillance, and research, where they still serve a niche role today. #HindenburgDisaster #AviationHistory #AirTravelEvolution #SafetyInFlight #HistoricAviation

Jones act question, which after two hours researching online I still don’t have a few reputable sources in close agreement on. In the oft cited number of US Shipyards and US shipyard workers the Act helps support, how many of each are devoted solely to the large capacity freighters, overseas or coastal? Not saying that details are important when debating issues of national interest (that was sarcasm) but there are large shipyards building and maintaining Naval ships, USCG and USG owned and operated ships, pleasure ships from Hobie Cat sized to billionaire sized and Chris Craft and sailing yachts in between. So, re stating my question, how many shipyards and ship builders are building container and dry bulk and other commercial freight carrying ships in the US?
