Tim Burnside's presentation at the recent ELPHA General Assembly highlighted the links between Transport and Science. Tim cited two peer-reviewed articles summarising vital information taken from real-life transport trials. The first in Science Direct https://lnkd.in/eK8DSuXc and the second in the National Library of Medicine https://lnkd.in/eVezxcbB

To be honest, this is the one field in the poultry business thats is being neglected and not a lot of attention given. There are so many transport vehicles transporting day old chicks, but not effective and efficient, at least not all of them. Although the chicks do reach the destinations alive, companies do not realize the impact transport have on chick quality! In South Africa for instance trucks delivering and chicks on the trucks up to 8hours, personally experienced one delivery of chicks arrived 45000 dead on the truck! A year later another farm experienced the same fate, thats 90 000 in one year! Dead on arrival! Sad part is that not even the Hatvhery manager wants to get in a conversation and discuss the problems and listen to the solution. Planes and trains more complicated because its not designed to transport chickens in high quantities but it can be done with the right idea and mindset behind what the chick needs!
