Being a Good Rider and Advocate - Laying the Foundation As with everything, the foundation on which you build is the determining factor of long term stability and function. This is no different for horses and riders forming a partnership to perform tasks that are not natural for either partner. Horses are not designed to be ridden. Humans are not designed to ride. Taking the time to understand the processes involved is the first step in laying this foundation. How does you horse work? How do you work? What do you want to accomplish for you and your horse? Is it realistic? What is the most important aspect of having a horse for you? In an industry that seems to value winning over ethical treatment of horses, it can be difficult to find the right information, mindset and courage to fly in the face of dominance based and cruel training methods.
