On this date in 1945, the signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender aboard the USS Missouri formally ended World War II. The surrender was more than a victory of the Allied forces over the Axis Powers. It was the victory of democracy and liberty over fascism, military expansionism, and racist-based nationalism. Founding Forward believes that the ongoing defense of democracy begins with education. We teach future generations the rights and responsibilities embedded in our country’s founding documents and educate them on the historic events that established, preserved, and promoted liberty and democracy. Your support of Founding Forward is critical to this ongoing and critically important effort. https://lnkd.in/eCRQiCbe #VJDay #CivicEducation #Democracy #FoundingForward

I recently ran across Cunliffe's Soldiers & Civilians. It has a pretty good discussion about the conflicts of between an amateur and professional approach to national defense. It is rare to see both arguments considered Captain Alden Partridge's theories presented. I think he misses the mark as I believe what an "amateur" represents may have been incorrectly applied in many cases. For example, is a part-time National Guard Soldier an amateur or a professional? If they are considered amateurs, why do Guard units often outperform Active Duty units. If these part-time National Guard are considered professionals, how are graduates of Norwich University (under the design of Captain Alden Partridge) not also considered professional? I think the amateur vs. professional argument is largely oversimplified and often misapplied. https://amzn.to/3RM9MWD #ad Norwich University #USMA #Militia #Army

Today, we commemorate the 80TH anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in history when the Allied forces launched a massive invasion of Normandy, France, during World War II. On June 6, 1944, in what became known as the largest amphibious invasion in military history. Given the codename Overlord, the operation delivered five naval assault divisions to the beaches of Normandy, France. The beaches were given the code names Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. The invasion force included 7,000 ships and landing craft manned by over 195,000 naval personnel from eight allied countries. Almost 133,000 troops from the United States, the British Commonwealth, and their allies landed on D-Day, and there were over 10,000 casualties from heavy enemy fire, marking the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany. The sacrifices made on D-Day remind us of the courage, determination, and selflessness displayed by the men and women who fought for freedom and democracy. Today is a day to honor the veterans who served and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their bravery and heroism will never be forgotten. As we reflect on D-Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the values of liberty, equality, and justice for all. Let's give thanks for the incredible courage and resilience shown by the Allied forces on that fateful day and honor their legacy by uniting and working towards a more peaceful and just world. #purpleheartfoundation #dday #veteransupport #purpleheart #military #armedforces #veterans

War Made Invisible How America Hides the Human Toll of Its Military Machine Norman Solomon *"War Made Invisible: How America Hides the Human Toll of Its Military Machine" by Norman Solomon How the U.S. government, with the help of media and political institutions, obscures the devastating human consequences of its military operations. The book critiques the normalization of perpetual war in American society, arguing that the realities of civilian casualties, destruction, and trauma caused by U.S. military actions are often hidden or downplayed, such as media manipulation, political rhetoric, and sanitized reporting—that mask the true costs of war, both abroad and at home, creating a culture where warfare is accepted and its human toll largely ignored. Through powerful analysis, the book highlights the moral implications of this invisibility and calls for greater transparency and accountability. https://lnkd.in/dHStqaTX

Centrinex and Customer Care Global honor our fallen heroes and veterans on this Memorial Day - May 27, 2024 A Promise to the Fallen “Freedom is not free.” That’s a phrase we’ve all heard. But we don’t often consider who pays the cost of that freedom. Very few Americans swear an oath to defend our country. And of these patriots, only a small fraction lose their lives serving the nation. Every year, on Memorial Day, we do our best to honor the fallen. It’s a day of solemn remembrance. A day to acknowledge the opportunities we enjoy, thanks to the actions of these courageous individuals. On this day, we are reminded to “never forget.” But as time passes, many of their names and stories can be lost to history if we don’t work to keep them in our collective memory. So how do we “never forget”? How do we remember the willingness of these gallant souls to do what others would not? How do we truly honor them, not on a single day, but every day? The answer is to stand for America’s founding values. To strengthen our communities. To give back whenever we can. To make this the best nation on earth, not by what we say, but by what we do. This is a promise to the fallen—a vow to live our lives to the fullest and for each other. Because our days didn’t come without a cost, and we will never forget that you are the ones who paid the price.
