⛔ Important Notification ⛔ Dear Professors, Colleagues, and Researchers, 📢 We wish to inform you that new manuscript submissions will no longer be permitted to include the Lena image. According to the recent PSPB motion, "IEEE’s diversity statement (https://lnkd.in/deGWEzTx) and supporting policies such as the IEEE Code of Ethics (https://lnkd.in/dPQt7hGN) speak to IEEE’s commitment to promoting an inclusive and equitable culture that welcomes all. In alignment with this culture and with respect to the wishes of the image's subject, Lena Forsén, IEEE will no longer accept submitted papers that include the 'Lena image." To raise awareness and ensure author compliance with this new policy, we will introduce a statement during submission on both ScholarOne Manuscripts and the IEEE Author Portal submission platforms. Authors must confirm that their manuscript does not include the Lena image. 🔗 Image Source: https://lnkd.in/dmkQ_aAE IEEE Communications Society #IEEE #COMSOC #OJCOMS #Lena

Knock knock! 🚪 Who's there? 🤔 It's GLaMM! 🌟 Excited to share that our paper, GLaMM: Pixel Grounding Large Multimodal Model, will be presented at CVPR 2024! 🎉🎉 tomorrow (Jun 20, 2024, Thursday) at 10:30 AM, poster #326! 🔥 Why GLaMM is special 🙌: 1. First end-to-end LMM tackling multiple vision-language tasks like Grounded Conversation Generation (GCG), image captioning, region-captioning, referring expressions segmentation, visual question answering, and more in a single model. 💥 2. We developed a fully automatic image annotation pipeline to build GranD dataset. 📊✨ 3. Fully open-source: Code, models, dataset, and dataset generation pipeline. 🚀💻 Check it out: GranD Dataset: https://lnkd.in/eYuKia9C GranD-f Dataset: https://lnkd.in/dYcjC_e8 Code: https://lnkd.in/d3yFnPRt (Do not forget to ⭐️ our repo). Come meet the team (Hanoona, Sahal, Salman, Ming-Hsuan, Fahad) at Arch4A-E at poster #326 to know more! 😊👩💻👨💻 #CVPR2024 #MultimodalModels #VisionLanguage

I am very grateful to Yefim Roth for the opportunity to discuss our study and other pressing issues in social science. If you want to know what my answers are to these not-so-easy questions, go check the video! Spoiler alert: we are going to discuss, replication crises, translation of research from the lab to nudges, LLMs, and... Marguerite Yourcenar :-) · What are the main implications of your findings? · How can your research findings be extended? · What is the most pressing issue in social science nowadays? · What is your vision for our community ten years from now? · What is the most impressive finding from the last ten years? · What is your advice for young scholars? · Which book would you recommend us to read?
What is perhaps the best work in the world? How does feedback influence risk-taking behavior? Discover insights in my interview with Prof. Stefano Palminteri, the head of the Human Reinforcement Learning Lab at Ecole Normale Supérieure. https://lnkd.in/dZbyncyT This interview is based on Prof. Palminteri's DEB seminar talk on "Feedback-induced dispositional changes in risk preferences." https://lnkd.in/dfp7QbWU DEB Seminar previous talks: https://lnkd.in/ddEgmKWm

I have come across a recommendable and thorough course on science communication by Jason Pridmore and Marina Tulin from RSM Erasmus University. The course, titled 'Communicating Trustworthy Information in the Digital World,' is publicly available on Coursera within the scope of the TRESCA (Trustworthy, Reliable and Engaging Scientific Communication Approaches) project. Interesting insights into the broad context in which science is conducted and communicated in the digital age, including a reflection on the role of values, biases, and interests of the actors involved. Link to the interview with Jason Pridmore, who is also a part of COALESCE SciComm: https://lnkd.in/d_ZZSSgw #ScienceCommunication #SciComm

Jyväskylä Brain and Mind's January Researcher of the Month is Jarmo Hämäläinen! ❄ Professor Hämäläinen's work in centered on learning, its processes, and individual variation associated with learning, learning difficulties included. Jarmo's work is key in understanding how such variation is related to the speed of learning. Jarmo is also involved in InterLearn, a consortium between multiple universities led by University of Jyväskylä: https://interlearn.fi/en. Make sure to check out his interview! 🧠 https://lnkd.in/dYGnwMkC

Posited by J.L. Austin, the Speech Act Theory considers language use as a type of action, and not merely as a medium to convey information and express thoughts. For example, the sentence “For security reasons, the girls are not allowed to come out from their hostels after 08.00 PM.” is considered a speech act as it has two elements in it: to provide protection to girls as well as force them to remain inside their hostels. So, the speech act for security reasons is performative. Chapter on “Speech Act Theory” reaches 200 reads. https://lnkd.in/gJj4Cyyk via @researchgate https://lnkd.in/gJj4Cyyk
