Before all the logos flip to bright, rainbow colors for Pride month in June - let’s talk about how to actually impact the LGBTQ community all year, every year, rather than just rainbow washing in June for optics. How to support LGBTQ : ✨ Ask everyone their pronouns. Add yours to your social platforms and team pages to show that you are an ally in not assuming pronouns. ✨ Support LGBTQ run businesses that create safe spaces for queers and all year-round. ✨ Invest in LGBTQ startups - before you can support a business, you need to support the founders in their nascent state. Much work is being done in this space, but that shouldn’t stop you from putting your money where your mouth is in supporting queer founders. Some great organizations that deserve a shout out for leading the way: 🏳️🌈 Gaingels 🏳️🌈 Backstage Capital 🏳️🌈 Pride Fund 1 🏳️🌈 Chasing Rainbows ✨Vote queer and queer-supporting politicians into office where available, and vote for those leveraging their platforms to support LGBTQ rights to affirming healthcare, equality, and efforts to increase diversity. Lastly, tell the queer people in your life that you love them - and ask them how you can support their community. Advocate, volunteer, donate, do whatever you can to support *real* action, not just a rainbow version of your logo. Cheers, and a happy upcoming Pride to all who support LGBTQ humans. Signed, a 50%-owned queer startup studio helping fellow queer founders find their footing in a space in need of diversity. This week we’re shining a spotlight on someone we’ve had the pleasure and privilege of working with over the last year. Nagela Dales is an unapologetic multi-hyphenated creative and business and equity strategist with a life mission to help create a radically inclusive, multi-generational economy. She is the founder of OpenHouse, they work with businesses to create more community, access and equity. It’s rare to meet someone who wholeheartedly understands people and communities as much as Nagela does. Her ability to step into someone else’s shoes, combined with her next-level creativity, means she is constantly identifying ways to make the world a better place. We first discovered Nagela when she was speaking at a conference about intergenerational grace (sub-titled: how not to be an a**hole to your mother while transcending to your higher self!) A powerful talk about understanding what someone has been through. A line from the talk that we often reference in our workshops, "the way to humanise the people around you is to ask for their hardest stories." Over the last year, we’ve been lucky enough to work with Nagela and the team at OpenHouse. She has helped us to centre empathy and community at the heart of what we do. She’s helped us to really understand our values and how to keep them front of mind. Her help has been invaluable and enabled us to see the potential of our work as a platform to drive real change. If you are looking to create more equity, more empathy and more fun in your business (who isn’t?!) get in touch with Nagela - you can find her contact details on the link below. #equity #empathy #genderinclusion #DEI #businessdesign #community https://lnkd.in/e4caHQUN
