Could tech giants one day displace OEMs? This is very interesting and very real. And the question worth pondering is this: "what is the more difficult route, an automotive OEM developing the technology required for the future consumer or tech giants developing the manufacturing skills needed for mass market automotive applications?" #automotive #techinnovation #dealerships #automotiveOEM #ExperienceFirst #Keyloop

VP Samsung Semiconductor Foundry EMEA | INSEAD | Mobility & Semiconductor Technology | Strategy & Operations
https://lnkd.in/dRRZkzC5 " Asked by analysts on Ambarella Inc’s most recent earnings call whether the company had changed its automotive strategy, Ambarella CEO Fermi Wang said the firm had increased its focus on the Chinese market... Wang clarified to EE Times that revenue for Ambarella’s most recent CV3 automotive SoC family will come first, but not only, from China... “The reason is that Chinese OEMs and tier ones will take only 18-24 months to introduce a product versus 48 months anywhere else,” Wang told EE Times. “At IAA MOBILITY, German OEMs were shocked by how fast Chinese vendors have been able to [develop and] show EVs...” As well as OEMs, tier-one customers are still a focus for Ambarella, having recently signed deals with Continental and Bosch... “As a smaller company than [our competitors], it’s important we have a partner that’s huge,” Wang said. “That’s why we focus on tier ones. But we all know the end customer is the OEM, and we need to sell to the OEM to convince them to use our solution. So we have to do both.” " #eetimes #semiconductorindustry #automotive #automotiveindustry #ambarella #electrification #germany #china #electronics #technology #automotivesuppliers

Change is constant in the #automotive industry. The pathway to success requires auto leaders in front who can assess decisions through a “future-proof” lens while also addressing present needs. Take the chip shortage for example. Toyota navigated this very well. Using a future-proof plan by stockpiling – allowing them to avoid the worst outcomes of the shortage. In #manufacturing, a seamless #supplychain is a huge factor in being future-proof. This comes down to crafting reliable solutions and having access to a wide scope of #talent and #tech. The below graphic is a compelling capture of how automakers ranked amid the chip shortage. https://lnkd.in/eC7TtK6R

✔ Continental is targeting an ambitious "code to road" timeline of ONE day for new functions! They aim to accelerate integration processes in response to the industry's rapid shift toward software-defined vehicles. 🚘 Gilles MABIRE, CTO of the German supplier, emphasizes the need to generate, test, release, and deploy code to customers in days rather than months, marking a significant game-changer. ⚡ This initiative aligns with the industry's drive to halve the development time of cars. A move responding to the accelerating pace of change and meeting automakers' demands for quicker integration and deployment of software. 📣 Previously, the product integration process took three to four years, but Continental now aims to deliver software releases on a daily or weekly basis, enabling faster development cycles and increased maturity during early stages. Read more at https://lnkd.in/eFuQ5_gx 🌈 My note: The agility and speed of development is increasing exponentially. We see already Tesla and leading Chinese brands ahead in that direction. Their massive vertical integration helps them in this respect. #sdv #automotivesupplychain #automotive #futureofmobility
