Many car dealers were pushed by the manufacturers into heavy investment in large showrooms. Expand or lose the franchise was the order of the day, so many did borrow money and those loans are still outstanding and still causing heartache. Should the same manufactures now insist that smaller showrooms with a couple of sample models and a touch pad for selecting the options now be the way forward then they had better be ready for some disquiet from those who represent them at ground level.
