As my time in the Middle East draws to a conclusion after seven years, Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp has now advertised the role of Regional Advocacy and Communications Coordinator for the Middle East region. DRC's presence in the Middle East includes country offices in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkiye, Iraq, Yemen and now a response starting up in the occupied Palestinian territory. There are fantastic, dedicated, advocacy staff in the majority of these country offices - which provides a great opportunity to influence on the aid responses in those countries and support displacement- and conflicted-populations. As well as working with these excellent colleagues, there is a huge opportunity to connect their work to global aid policy agendas and to work at a regional level, including on issues of: - Ensuring Syrian refugees in the region are protected and upholding the principle of non-refoulement, at a particularly challenging time as donor funding reduces and there is more pressure on refugees to return. - Improving responses to internal displacement across the region, advocating for IDP rights, and linking to the UNSG's Action Agenda on Internal Displacement. - Advocating for inclusion of the displaced in social protection systems and working with regional and national civil society to strengthen social protection systems and ensure international aid responses seek to strengthen those systems and not ignore them. - Enhance the role of civil society across the region - through working alongside them on advocacy and promoting their voice in key aid discussions. - Much more! You can find the full description for the role here: https://lnkd.in/efq2WSyE (Update on my next step at another time.)

I was a bit late…but all worked out well. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered that UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency had launched the Project #Inspire to empower UNHCR colleagues in their use of LinkedIn to give more visibility to our work. I immediately thought it was a great idea and wanted to join but the deadline to apply had already passed. My first thought was “Well…you lost your chance, maybe another time” but then I asked myself: “What about giving it a try?”. So I contacted the team and I was told that there was one spot left because a colleague had dropped out. So...I’m excited to be part of the Project Inspire and eager to share some thoughts and stories 🤩 What is my takeaway from this? ▶ Make the most out of your organization’s internal communication UNHCR sends out a monthly internal update called “The Brief” to all staff and has an intranet site with a lot of useful information! I have created a bookmark for the internal site and a dedicated folder in Outlook for all broadcasts to check out the latest news with a few clicks. ▶ Don’t give up too easily I sometimes think that asking for something I’m interested in is a waste of time or that it may be considered inappropriate but...I have learned that it’s worth doing everything in my hand to try to make it possible. My father once told me “La peor gestión es la que no se hace” (“Nothing is worse than doing nothing”) and some of the greatest opportunities I have had came from taking initiative. 💡What are your best tips to make the most out of your organization’s internal communication? #HumanitariansAtWork #refugees

Head of ICRC Regional Communication Centre, Nairobi | Content Creation, Crisis Communication, Strategic Media Engagement, Harmful Information
Dear Network, We are seeking to recruit a Regional Communications Adviser on Disinformation to join our team in Nairobi. The proliferation of harmful information observed in recent years and the demultiplying effect of social media, combined with limited awareness and sometimes malicious intent, can have a particularly nefarious impact on already vulnerable communities and also on humanitarian workers. The Regional Communications Adviser on Disinformation will play a key role in supporting and training our teams in a dozen countries, identifying solutions, developing strategies and producing tailored content. We are looking for an experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of regional and country dynamics in East Africa, and a proven track record in identifying harmful information, developing tactics to prevent its spread, and responding to it. If you have experience working in this area -- for a fact-checking organisation, a humanitarian organization or media house -- or if you know someone who does, please reach out. Please note that this position is only open to people who have a permanent right to work in Kenya. https://lnkd.in/dqKhMWV5
