Very happy to share I am pleased to share the report from the Inquiry into Workforce Australia Employment Services, Rebuilding Employment Services Final report on Workforce Australia Employment Services. You may remember ACCE’s submission to the inquiry earlier this year (here). The recommendations call for drastic change to ensure that services place the jobseeker at the centre of the solution. The report notes the considerable difference in the employment service system in Australia compared to OECD countries and may result in better career matching and career support, and less focus on mutual obligations. Pleasingly, the report has identified the positive contribution of the Jobs Victoria Career Counsellors service: 3.10 Greater South East Melbourne (GSEM) told the Committee that the Jobs Victoria model—and particularly Advocates and Career Counsellors—has been particularly effective in enabling jobseekers to access jobs which align with their aspirations. "Are we serious about supporting Aboriginal Relations, for example do we have an Aboriginal Relations Policy in place, and does everyone understand it?" This is the first question on the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business 15 point questionnaire that is part of their Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program. This is the first question I was presented with when Anita Pawluk and RaceRocks invited me to be part of their PAR journey in 2020. I can offer that the PAR program presents many questions that are challenging and uncomfortable beyond the one above. And for the last three years I've been the person responsible for asking uncomfortable and challenging questions of the RaceRocks team. The thing is my friends, what this journey has taught me, is those uncomfortable questions, they were the ones that allowed growth and transformation to take place because they ensured the truth was present. We will not change what we do not acknowledge. I'm wrapping up my time with the RaceRocks team today and holding a mix of emotions as this has been the most rewarding and difficult work I've every been part of. I now carry forward the knowledge that we absolutely can change the way we work. Something I've always known could be done. However we will continue to be stuck in non-progressing-reconciliation-performance until we: Stop shying away from uncomfortable questions. Consistently allocate resources that are at minimum equivalent to sales, HR, BD etc. Acknowledge that this responsibility is imperative and valuable work. Involve everyone. This responsibility can not only be in the backpack of one or a few. This responsibility is not just that of one business unit, it spans the entirety of an organization, including board members and share holders. There is no space in a business, no matter the sector or industry, that this responsibility does not apply. If the answer is no, maybe, not sure to- Are we serious about supporting Aboriginal relations, for example do we have an Aboriginal Relations Policy in place, and does everyone understand it? - the answer to the next question but how will we prioritize learning what is required so we can take action to transform those answers to yes is participating in the PAR program. https://lnkd.in/gjB6kAP
