Overnight, Ukraine’s biggest children’s hospital was hit by a missile attack. Search and rescue is underway at Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital. Photos from the scene show children attached to intravenous drips waiting to be evacuated. Dozens of rockets were fired across Ukrainian cities including Kyiv, Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih. At least 33 people were killed and many more have been injured. UNHCR is providing emergency shelter kits to families living near the hospital, where homes have been severely damaged. Patil grew up in Aleppo, Syria, a city ravaged by war. As a refuge from the conflict, Patil would play the piano, which acted as her “little window of hope.” She always dreamed of playing Chopin’s Grand Valse Brillante in front of a large audience. That dream recently came true at an Australia for UNHCR event.

Mariia and her children Anastasiia and Kyrylo are Ukrainian refugees who now call Sydney home.
