Senior Product Marketing Manager with 29 years' identity/biometrics technology experience who drives conversions with customer-focused sales enablement content.
End of week thoughts: jobseekers are products, but employers are not always buying or even communicating. For example, one employer at Company X who interviewed me back in March has ghosted me since, despite multiple follow-up attempts. I’ve given up on that job application. Despite our fervent wishes, ghosting will NOT go away. Even some friends and family are too busy to check on or talk to unemployed jobseekers. (I experienced this during my “unsettled” February.) As for recruiters and hiring managers, if a jobseeker can’t help them, many have no reason to follow up. Sad, but we have to move on. (But not at Company X, since I’m probably on its blocklist.) #productmarketing #jobhunt https://lnkd.in/gQB9Kn37

🚨 Another post about layoffs...sort of. I have been seeing layoff posts flood LinkedIn since early this year and it is very unfortunate how it has all happened. The poor planning, companies unsure of what they were doing, jobs being rescinded, and so many other things. These are all things we are not in control of - unfortunately. So what can we control? How we all adapt to the situation. I know that there are some people holding on to their last dollar right now and that breaks my heart. I wish I could financially help others, but we're all in this hamster wheel together. What I can do though, is help provide clarity and direction. I think knowing what your own mission is can help kick off a new journey for ourselves. I am not just a designer...I am also a coach, a mentor, a mixed martial artist with 13 fights (Muay Thai and MMA), a person with a good heart, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Being a fighter has taught me so many things that a career cannot do, you have to dig REAL, REAL deep within yourself and overcome the battles that go on mentally and physically. Having a champion mentality can get you very far. Now I am just stating this because during hard times, it requires heart and will. Most of us have it, it just needs to be accessed and having a good support system around you helps - if that is possible. I can help be your support system. If you just want to talk, want me to review your portfolio, or just talk shop. Whatever it may be, please feel free to reach out. Not asking for money or anything. Just want to leave this world a better place. And maybe a little bit of old school jams wouldn't hurt to get you groovin' for a bit. #coaching #layoffs #jobhunting #tech #uxdesign #design #productdesign #product https://lnkd.in/gqbYTueZ

I'm the missing piece in your business puzzle | Connecting the pieces with practical support, guidance, ideas, clarity and advice for you and your business | Creative Business Strategist & Mentor
🎸 I’m not a musician but I used to work for a company in the Music Industry. Every day, I would hear noise, guitar noise to be precise because the company designed guitar amplifiers. 🙉 Probably 90% of the people who worked there played an instrument and one of the guys tried to give me a guitar lesson but it wasn’t for me. 🎸🥁🎤 The thing is, it didn’t matter that I didn’t play an instrument because it wasn’t necessary for my role. However, I quickly learned a lot about the industry and I even gave new starter inductions, sharing my knowledge! 😃 When I first started working in the M.I. industry, it was such a culture shock. It was worlds apart from working in the corporate world but I quickly adjusted. During my time there, I wore many different hats. It involved HR management, process and KPI management/implementation, mentoring, and much more. A job title never really defined what I did - similar to now. The key learning point for me was to understand the culture of the industry, but at the same time, not let it define me and to implement changes that would benefit the business. In case you’re wondering... yes, we regularly had visits from well-known musicians from around the world and occasionally you’d get to hear/watch them play. Have you ever leapt into a different industry? #IngeniousCorner #MusicIndustry

It ain't over 'till it's over! While sourcing candidates, I became curious if there were any playlists for candidate sourcing on Spotify. To my delight, I discovered one and saw that this 1991 hit was the second song on the playlist. I do my best to consider immediate openings as well as future career options when recruiting candidates. Sometimes the timing just is not right and that is OKAY! It is important to me that candidates I support know they can always come back to me when the time or opportunity is right. It's your career, I am simply here to help create a bridge to your next move. Even years later, you are welcome to reach out! 👋 #hiring #recruiter #recruiting #talentacquisition #jobs #jobopportunities

How playing the piano helps me be a better professional It's quite common, at least in my experience, for developers to also play a musical instrument. I'm no exception, I've been playing drums for 19 years and piano for 2 years. This marriage between music and technology is something that fascinates me and that we can use common principles between the two universes. The most common principle is to break the whole into smaller parts. It's taking that complex Jira ticket and taking smaller, easier steps until you achieve the desired result. We learned this in computing college right from the beginning, as it is something that is used throughout the rest of our technology career. When I started learning piano, it was no different. I still use this technique to this day to be able to play that Beethoven bagatelle or that Chopin prelude. Divide the measures into easier sequences of notes, one hand at a time. Then, repeat a certain number of times until you feel comfortable and then bring your hands together and repeat again. And when you least expect it, those few notes that were repeated several times start to make sense until the complete piece finally comes out. And when you least expect it, those hours investigating every little piece of code start to make sense until the bug is finally resolved. Anyway, just some thoughts that came to mind today. #software #engineering

Today is my last day with Dell Technologies. Like many others, I was impacted by the layoffs aka Workforce Reductions that plagued tech. Yes, this sucks. However, if I'm being completely honest - I'm ok. My career at Dell sunsets 18 years, 1 month and 15 days after it originally began and it concludes at the role I set my sites on more than 9 years ago. In the timeframe that I've worked at Dell, I've had a myriad of successes, some of which have been shared to Linkedin, most of which have been celebrated with the people who matter most. As I look at today, what's clear to me is that I did a good job maximizing moments with colleagues, educating myself, building a network, and mentoring others. The outpouring of support has been amazing! I don't harbor any hard feelings. I've practiced what I've preached. I've always told the teams I've led to save and invest. The business unit was fortunate to lead just finished #1 in its segment eclipsing 9x growth since its inception 2 years ago. We did that several barriers and I'm extremely proud of that team. Change is hard, adjusting is hard. However, as much as this might suck - there are worst things. Yesterday, I went to Home Depot after finishing lunch with a colleague. I looked over and saw a man, visibly and loudly sobbing walking in the parking lot near where they keep riding mowers going towards the garden area. I asked him if he was ok and he was extremely upset because $8 short on medication needed to not get an infection and he had a nasty gash on his arm with his hand wrapped. Long story short I gave him the money plus some extra, bought him some water and tried to help him out. Comparison is the thief of joy, but it can also be the levier of perspective. If you're worried about me, please don't. I'm good. If you'd like to help, write me a LinkedIn recommendation based on our time together. When I'm ready to rejoin the market, make an introduction. In the mean time, if you consider me a friend, reach out. Otherwise, I'm gonna take some time for me. I've told several people over the years, "You're not good to anyone if you're not good to yourself." I haven't been a good example of that, so that starts now. To my former colleagues, coworkers, team members, I wish all of you the best that business, life, love, and whatever your dreams have to offer. This didn't end the way I would've chosen, but c'est la vie. Also, thank you for your calls, texts, messages, and emails. I don't know that I won't get down, so I've saved screenshots of most of them just in case. It means a lot. Today, it feels good to be off the island. Lord knows this past year has felt like we were all on Survivor. However, while I'm voted off, never count me out 😉. ✌🏾 https://lnkd.in/eyEueHET #techlayoffs #delltech #peaceofmind
