work should be done safely, effectively and efficiently
Don't do this when you hire your next maintenance planner... Simon Sinek is often quoted as saying— "You don't hire for skills, you hire for attitude. You can always teach skills." It's a popular quote... But don't listen to Simon when you hire or appoint your (next) maintenance planner. If you do you will live to regret it. Instead, when you hire your next maintenance planner, hire someone who has been a technician and, ideally, has worked on similar equipment and in a similar industrial setting. Planners prepare work for technicians so the work can be executed safely, effectively, and efficiently (i.e. with minimal delays). If you hire someone who has never actually done the job, don't expect them to be able to prepare or plan that job. It just doesn't work. #maintenance #reliability #ReliabilityAcademy

When I became a maintenance technician. I was trained by some outstanding people who had no idea that I wanted to become a Director! Training and Developement was very popular in Construction and Hospitality during the 90’s. I soaked up every inch of information that I could from any and everyone. I learned to walk my property and hear if something was off, by sound and/or smell. I’m sure Building engineers can agree. I listened to every contractor and I was very eager to watch them work on our equipment and facilitiy. I wanted to know what, why and how about everything. I cared about what happened from day to day, even on my off days. My Director(s), (more than one over the years) told me, they never had to worry about anything while I was on the job. I take my performance seriously so on one hand I felt appreciated and on the other hand, I had the desire to be an entrepreneur. I wanted to do things on another level. The male dominance in the industry had me second guess my voice in my younger years. However; they could not silence my experience. I trained and developed serveral employees. I am so very proud of all of them and the work they are doing. Building Owners, Hospitality and Restaurants Maintenance teams.. Give us some feedback on these questions? 1. What type of training do you need to develop your employees? 2. What basic skill levels are you employees missing? 3. Are your preventative maintenance programs working?
