In a special edition of this week's newsletter, LBC wants to shoutout new and unique stories from our material donors! Every year hundreds of organizations, individuals, partners and collaborators donate reusable items that LBC can then give back to our West End community - and this week is no different! We would like to send a shoutout to Atlanta Housing for donating a variety of antique cabinet sets that have been put to amazing use in our community. Through LBC's partnership in deconstructing facilities in East Lake Highrise, a senior living residence, we were able to salvage these materials which otherwise would have gone to landfills. For instance, two five-piece sets are in the process of being utilized by a client - who is a residential contractor in Atlanta's West End (30310) - to provide sustainable upgrades to affordable housing initiatives in West End neighborhoods. Without Atlanta Housing Authority's generosity and assistance, this would not have been possible. Together as a community we can make a difference and work in tandem for a common cause. #togetherwecan #sustainablereuse #reuse #workforgood #nonprofitwork #nonprofit

RCF can be involved in your estate planning. If you are interested in leaving money to your community or leaving a legacy, and you have real estate your family won’t be keeping when you are gone, consider donating it to RCF. They will give you a receipt for the value of your donation which helps you decrease your tax. Your family has less tax to pay, and one less thing to deal with after you are gone. You can ask RCF to make sure the proceeds go to specific causes you support or areas of the province. Whether is gender equality, child poverity, or climate change, to name a few, RCF can help. Reach out to RCF for more details.

Doing what we can, but there is still so much more that can be done.
🛋️ Event Planning Post | Las Vegas Giveback This year, we have been partnering with local organizations in Las Vegas to make a positive impact with the Healthcare Advocate Summit. Anyone involved in event planning knows the high markups on rentals and furniture, and the total cost this can add up to for three days of furniture. So, we decided to cancel our entire show order this week and purchase the items ourselves. At the close of our event, we are thrilled to support the CARE Complex which helps those who are homeless transition into unfurnished apartments. We will be donating our items to this wonderful organization. The effort in navigating and managing logistics is well worth giving back to the city of Las Vegas 💜 Care Complex’s Mission “Dedicated to ending homelessness in Southern Nevada, one individual at a a time” https://lnkd.in/eHQwPgpU #Giveback #Donation #Support

Statistics say a lot about the challenges of home affordability in the Midwest. “1 in 9 households in Wisconsin spend half or more of their income on housing,” reported Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity in their 2023 annual report. “There is a shortage of over 126,000 affordable rentals available for extremely low-income families in Wisconsin.” To help mitigate this crisis in the community they serve, local Malarkey Certified Residential Contractor, American Quality Homes, donated their time and labor for the installation of a new roof on a new home built by Habitat for Humanity. With assistance from Northeast Wisconsin Malarkey Sales Representative Maximilian Crookston, a complete system of roofing products was donated in the fall of 2023. Expressive Arts Educator - IEP Advocate - Safe & Sound Protocol Therapeutic Listening System Provider - Trauma Consultant; Specialize in Autism & Autism with PDA profile
This work is more important than ever!!! There are never situations that ever warrant this kind of abuse. These are kids. As many know, I got involved with The Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint 4 1/2 years ago, about 7 months after Max Benson was killed by restraint while at school. I couldn’t just let his death sit, with zero action to ensure this never happens again. Unfortunately, it has continued to happen many more times since he was killed. Max would be 18 if he wasn’t killed November 2018. I will continue to fight systems that harm our kids, educate systems and individuals to understand what our autistic kids may or may not need as there is no cookie cutter approach to supporting our Neurodivergent kids, to educating the ND learner and what each individual needs to be successful. But one thing we do know, is seclusion and restraint are harmful and can be deadly in far too many cases. WE KNOW BETTER!!!! NOW is the time to DO BETTER! Please consider making a donation to support the amazing work this organization is doing to stop these barbaric practices, that are so often used on our autistic kids, our kids with trauma, our kids with black and brown skin, our kids who have learning and thinking differences……… all in the name of education, control, and compliance. It’s not working and the research has informed as to why these approaches don’t change behavior. What we do know, is these practices are harmful and even deadly in some cases. Max Benson’s family knows this all too well. He never came home from school that day in November just after he turned 13 years old because he become upset, spit and then was quickly taken down and held face down for 1 hour and 45 minutes before he died. This is a tragedy like so many others that did not have to happen. So please consider donating; even $10.00 can make a significant difference to supporting families & individuals who have experienced these practices; or it can help bring this education to districts, schools, and organizations on ways to support students, even our most challenging students. Every dollar can make a difference. So thank you for considering ways to support and help celebrate 5 years of The Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint! For additional resources or information please check out the website: www.endseclusion.org You can also find AASR on all social media platforms.
In the five years since its inception, the Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint (AASR) has been at the forefront of a vital movement, advocating tirelessly for the safety and dignity of individuals in schools and healthcare facilities. Please consider donating to our anniversary fundraiser to support this critical work. https://aasr.news/gm9 #endseclusion #endseclusion5years #AASR5YearsStrong #stillworkingtoEndSeclusion #AASRCelebrates
