We are starting our first trauma registry! Trauma is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, with a disproportionate burden affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Our reason for embarking on this strategic journey is driven by our goal to analyze the impact of trauma and the nature of injuries in our hospital based patient population and nationally so that we and our healthcare partners can develop quality improvement initiatives that prevent injury, optimize trauma care and provide vital information to policy makers on resource allocation and injury prevention programs. Recommendations for a successful trauma registry implementation: ✅Strategic priority with buy-in from policy makers, institutional leaders, individual patients and the community. ✅Adequate and sustainable funding for both start up and annual operating costs. ✅Trauma registry training and specialized personnel. ✅Customized, standardized and inclusive data collection tool supported by Trauma registry software and hardware. ✅Quality patient records and an effective strategy for patient identification and documentation. ✅Project team made up of key stakeholders #peoplecentredcare #serviceexcellence #strategicpartnerships #TCIhospitalstrong

Fellow physicians, what’s stopping us from taking enough time off- whatever that may be and realizing it’s different for each of us? Just the other day, I had a conversation with a GI doc who revealed he’s only taken 3 weeks off per year for the last 20 years. He’s thinking about, and really wants to take 12 weeks off this year. My take- do it! You only live once. Life is short and all of those cliches. For more than 15 years Dr. Dainty has focused her research on issues related to patient and family experience of health care, implementation science, patient-centered outcome measures, and life after critical illness. Her core program of research focuses on using qualitative methods to unpack long-held assumptions about bystander experience and survivorship following sudden cardiac arrest with a view to improving the standard of care around the world.
