Bridging Logistics Leadership & Foreign Policy - "China Hawk" - 11x published, 2x Featured China Expert, Keynote Speaker - "The Right Words Can Change the World"
In the last 24 hours my wife and I had two Delta Air Lines flights cancel at the last minute and were told there were no flights available for two days both times. On the second one today (Atlanta to Columbia SC) we decided to just get a rental and drive the 3 hours to Columbia, though we still don't know what, if anything Delta will reimburse us for. When we went to get a rental we found out that Hertz and Avis Budget Group make it a habit of price gouging people when flights get cancelled and because they own most of the outlets there are no alternatives. For a ONE DAY rental Budget charged $450.64 plus a $350 refundable deposit. Attendants from both companies told us that was why it was so expensive. Reminds me of all the price gouging you see before or after a natural disaster (Blizzard, hurricane, etc). The $450.64 is the same as the normal price for 8 days! Is this okay State of Georgia Office of the Attorney General, Better Business Bureau? What's the LinkedIn worthy lesson from this? When we allow companies to buy up their rivals and create monopolies or duopolies, customers lose. You lose, and the rich get richer.

As you prepare for Hurricane Idalia, be mindful of the dangers of driving during a hurricane. Keep in mind that hurricane-force winds can topple trees and snap large branches from trees that can block roads and cause accidents when your visibility is impaired by wind-driven rainfall. If you must venture out: ⚠️ Check for road closures before you leave. ⚠️ Drive slowly on wet roads. ⚠️ Do not drive on flooded roads. ⚠️ If you come to an intersection where the traffic signal is inoperable, treat it as a four-way stop sign.
