People’s pocketbooks are not just top of mind at the grocery store, gas station or dinner table. They’ll be paramount at the polls this election cycle. A plurality of Georgia voters see economic issues, including inflation and the cost of living, as the most important factors driving their choice in November’s presidential election, according to a poll conducted for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The survey found Donald Trump with a slight lead in Georgia over President Joe Biden, although voters were split among ideological and partisan lines on who they blamed for sticker shock and any perceived financial woes. https://lnkd.in/epDVpRfj

President Biden is facing calls from anxious Democrats to express more empathy over inflation and prices, as voters continue to reject the president’s positive rhetoric on the economy. Voter pessimism on the economy and Biden’s handling of it appear increasingly locked in just over five months from Election Day, with surveys showing many voters holding a rosier view of the prepandemic economy under former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. Note: I delve into this in our lead story of the latest edition of The Rising Tide, which came out on Sunday. https://lnkd.in/girta9Pg Democratic worries are mounting as the summer-vacation season kicks off, and Biden is gearing up for two foreign trips in June—with less of his time devoted to domestic issues. At a recent fundraiser in Boston, Biden touted numbers on jobs and investments in manufacturing and technology, before saying: “We have to do more, but inflation has dropped from 9% to 3%.” In a recent CNN interview, he was asked about turning consumer confidence around and replied: “We have already turned it around.” “This has been a constant, constant problem. His desire to claim credit is a huge obstacle to connecting with voters on this issue,” said David Axelrod, the lead strategist for former President Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns. “We learned this in 2011 and 2012. You can cite data until the cows come home, but what counts is how people are perceiving the economy.” A new poll from the Cook Political Report, conducted with Democratic and Republican strategy firms, showed Trump leading Biden in six of seven swing states, with the two tied in Wisconsin. The poll showed that 40% of voters in those states thought Biden could get prices under control, compared with 56% who thought Trump could do it. Within the White House, some aides are pushing for a message that makes empathy toward the economic plight of certain Americans more central. Some noticed a preview of that direction when the president described the April inflation report in a statement, writing, “I know many families are struggling, and that even though we’ve made progress we have a lot more to do.” Biden aides argue that the president needs to do multiple things: show understanding, but also continue to talk about his economic accomplishments and how they compare with Trump’s approach to the economy, including the GOP rival’s plans to extend tax cuts for the wealthy. The aides say that Biden does consistently acknowledge peoples’ concerns about prices, and he says “nothing trickled down on our table” when he grew up. They are also bullish on having the president contrast his policies on containing costs with Trump’s and pushing back against corporate greed as one culprit for higher prices.

BIDENOMICS:...KEEP VOTING FOR DEMOCRATS!!! New data shows that corporations under Joe Biden’s administration have become richer, while families have burned through their savings....YA THINK???? Americans are a little more than a year away from the 2024 presidential election, and surveys show that the economy will likely be one of voters’ top concerns. That could prove to be disastrous for Joe Biden. Several polls now suggest that voters have a low opinion of the president’s economic performance. One recent NBC poll, for example, found that 59% of registered voters said they disapprove of Biden’s handing of the economy. Though several reasons could explain voters’ economic discontent, the latest data about the U.S. money supply, corporate wealth, and household savings tells the whole, sad story. Under the Biden administration, the government has continued to pump unprecedented amounts of money into the economy, but those policies appear to have disproportionately benefited large corporations, which are hoarding trillions in cash and investments while American families burn through their savings.

Reuters poll : Biden, a Democrat, has been largely tied with Trump in national polls asking voters how they will vote. But Trump has had slight leads over Biden in many polls in the states seen as most likely to determine the winner in the U.S. Electoral College. The poll laid out Biden's weaknesses as well as a few strengths. The state of the economy was seen as the top issue, picked by 23% of respondents as the most important problem facing the country. Some 21% saw political extremism as the top issue and 13% picked immigration. Some 40% of respondents in the poll said Trump, who was president from 2017 to 2021, had better policies for the U.S. economy, compared to 30% who picked Biden, while the rest said they didn't know or didn't answer the question. Trump had a significant edge on immigration, with 42% of respondents preferring his approach to the issue, while 25% picked Biden. Biden had a modest advantage on the issue of political extremism, with 34% of respondents picking the president's approach and 30% saying Trump was better on the issue. I cannot believe Biden has more than 10% of that high! Must be those who will lose direct income of the Biden family influence schemes. Biden and Kamala are a clear road to our Republic being compromised at such a dangerous level. I hold the DNC responsible for his nomination, period!!

"A majority of registered voters, 59%, also said they disapproved of how Biden has handled the economy, with 63% of voters saying the same for inflation and 58% saying the same for the growth of the middle class."! Further they say: "Biden's biggest hurdles for his reelection campaign are his handling of the economy and his age, two areas that could have implications for voters in 2024. A Wall Street Journal poll shows that 73% of respondents believe that Biden is too old to run for president again, with 60% indicating that they do not believe Biden is "mentally up for the job."! There are many more reasons not to vote for the party that attempted to block the abolition of slavery.

Voters in battleground states say the economy is a top issue https://ift.tt/u4PaYdn Voters’ impressions of how good each presidential candidate is for the economy could determine the outcome of the 2024 Presidential election. In Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are engaged in close contests, most voters said the economy will be a major factor in deciding whom they will cast their ballot for, results from a CBS News and YouGov poll show. In Michigan, 80% of voters say the economy is a top issue for them, followed by 77% of voters who say inflation is. Seventy-two percent of voters ranked the state of democracy as one of the issues that matter most to them. Biden currently has a narrow lead over Trump in the state. In both Pennsylvania and Washington, 80% of voters similarly ranked the economy as one of the topics they care most about this election. Other lower-ranked topics included candidates’ stances on gun policy, crime, the U.S.-Mexico border and abortion. “It’s so evident that the economy remains a central issue, but how people interpret the economy, the issues they want addressed to deal with their own economic situation — that’s a complicated questions with complicated answers,” said CBS News chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa. About 6 in 10 people polled by CBS News said they rated the economy as “fairly bad” or “very bad,” despite economic measures such as low unemployment, growing wages and a resilient stock market, which point to a strong U.S. economy. That could pose a challenge for Democrats who Costa said are eager to get “that labor voter, the union member” to vote Democratic and pull ahead of Trump. “They know that those working voters, at times hear the call of the Trump campaign and his message on immigration. And it can be appealing to those voters, and so that’s why Democrats are really trying to focus on the economy by focusing on labor,” Costa said. Two years ago, we utilised Understanding the Nation to create our very own economic vulnerability segmentation, allowing us to track not just the feelings and behaviours of the nation, but to understand how different groups of the population were being uniquely affected (or in some cases, not really affected). With our latest round of research, we have used our economic vulnerability segmentation to explore attitudes and feelings towards the general election amongst these different groups. It is perhaps unexpected that the cost of living will be playing a big part in many people's decisions about which party to support - but this isn't uniform across all, and there is still uncertainty amongst some about how much their finances should have an influence, and what the outcome of the election will mean for their personal finances. Part 2 of the election series (link below) explores the influence of the cost of living in more detail.
