July is Bereaved Parents Awareness Month. This month, we aim to raise awareness of the support necessary when one endures the unimaginable loss of a child by posting a series of hints on how to support a bereaved parent. It’s about sharing stories so that others know they are not alone. The first is to reach out to a bereaved parent and acknowledge their child who is no longer with them. Say their Name so that they know they are not alone in remembering their loved ones, no matter how much time has passed. #ambernt #besideyouingrief #saytheirname #conversationsthatmatter #bereavedparentawarenessmonth #childlosssupport #neverforgotten

Grief is universal, and expression is an individual experience. When supporting bereaved youth remember ask about the person who died, check in regarding school, ask how their bodies feel (think headaches, hungry, constipation etc.), listen twice as much as you talk, create time to memorialize (consider participating), talk! talk! talk! About the past, present & future. When you feel uncomfortable about a topic, this is often a subtle reminder it is important. #grief #childrensgrief #bereavement #bereavedyouth#supportingkids #childrensgrief #griefsupport #resilientminds #resiliendsmindscounseling

1 in 13 children will lose a parent or sibling by age 18, making access to bereavement resources critical. The theme for this year's #DyingMattersWeek is #HowWeTalkAboutDyingMatters. In our self-advocacy groups, we've been discussing the jargon often used when talking about dying and bereavement. Over the next few days, we'll break down some of these terms with our jargon busters. Let's begin with 'Terminal illness'—this refers to an illness that can't be cured and will eventually lead to a person's death. If you'd like more information on this topic, @hospiceuk has a resource page with Easy Read documents. You can find it here:
