We couldn’t let National Engineers Week pass without recognising the importance of engineers, given our sport’s reliance on them.   To encourage more young people to consider a career in motorsport and as part of our commitment to increase diversity in motorsport Formula 1, the F1 teams and the FIA are working together to encourage secondary school children across the UK to get involved in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM).   One of the ways we do that is through The Smallpeice Trust who facilitate STEM Challenge Days that are designed to give students a hands-on introduction to engineering and build vital life skills through a series of fun technical challenges, team-building exercises and talks from current Formula 1 engineers.   We want to make Formula 1 more accessible for people from lower socio-economic backgrounds and underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities and women who may be interested in pursuing a career in motorsport and an education in STEM is a great way to start.     #F1 #Motorsport #STEM #STEMEducation #Diversityandinclusion #NationalEngineersWeek

Oracle Red Bull Racing has officially partnered with Milton Keynes College Group to develop a curriculum, where the learning content will be aligned to the UK National Curriculum. This is designed to inspire young people into careers in STEM, which is a national skills priority identified by government. There will also be a Curriculum Advisory Board made up of selected technology industry leaders to support and advise on the skills needed for the future. Understanding potential skills gaps and challenges facing the sector provides a unique perspective and opportunity to inspire students with the art of the possible – jobs beyond motorsport in the wider world of tech, in non-traditional roles that often don’t yet exist. The Education Centre is a set to open in 2024 and targeted at 9 to 14-year-olds, and aims to open the world of motorsport to a wider demographic, attracting students into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and raise awareness of the opportunities these specialisations provide. Thus, encouraging young people to pursue their passion beyond GCSE level (or equivalent), where, according to research, much of the diversity is lost. Formula Student : Breaking Male Bastion- A Call For Inclusivity. In the realm of Formula Student competition, the presence of a male dominated environment is the stark reality. Although formula student wings have sprouted in humorous college campuses, a notable discrepancy persists, one that transcends engines and designs - a gender imbalance that shapes the experience of a female participant. Reflecting on my personal journey, I recall how workshops would be closed doors to females after a certain time,effectively restricting my involvement, just as the male participants delved into overnight endeavours. Moreover the divide was more than just time-bound, a more disturbing pattern has emerged, where the teams find girls mostly assigned to administrative or sponsorship tasks, whereas the male counterparts took over core engineering. This not only discourages us but also perpetuates the stereotype that girls are only fit for certain roles. Inclusivity isn’t just ticking boxes for diversity. It’s about recognising real engineering brilliance knows no gender! The ultimate Formula Student goal should be to empower and uplift every passionate engineer’s mind. Special shoutouts to all girls teams like Team Adira Electric bringing forward excellent designs year after year, proving gender is no barrier for Excellence. #FormulaStudent #Inclusivity #Diversity #Engineering

I want to be a race car driver!  No, not really, but I'm sharing a great article from SAE International (Society of Automobile Engineers) about one of my favorite clients, Kevin Boehm Racing. In addition to being a class-act organization made up of outstanding individuals, Kevin's story is one that every kid who is struggling to figure out what they want to be, should hear. It's a story about how passion, hard work and a random conversation with a guy at a racetrack can change everything and pave the way to becoming a championship winning race car driver that just happens to also be an exceptionally talented engineer and an all around great guy.
