The connection between sports and business is quite strong. Sports emphasize teamwork, strategy, leadership, and handling pressure, all of which are crucial in business and other areas of life. The fact that some of the most popular business books have been written by sports coaches underscores this point. I don't follow a whole bunch of sports, but the ones I do, I dive into deeply. This includes both individual sports like UFC and team sports like football. The more I learn, the more I realize that all sports require a team effort. In the last couple of years, I've been drawn to Formula 1. It's fascinating to see how drivers, builders, and team strategies all depend on each other. One standout aspect is the pit stop. McLaren's record 1.8-second stop in Qatar is a great example of teamwork, involving 22 people. It's just mindblowing! This kind of collaboration is a perfect lesson for business, particularly in terms of cross-departmental collaboration, whether it's between product and services, sales and marketing, or product and marketing. #teamcollaboration #sport

While I would not be cast as a die-hard F1 enthusiast nor a huge fan of Max Verstappen, the sheer inspiration derived from competing against oneself to improve is what truly captivates me. That intrinsic drive that pushes individuals, like Max, to achieve beyond perceived limits and to perform at a level never thought possible. Burning with intensity and striving for excellence in every endeavor (and in my case, always insisting on fun regardless of the outcome)—this is what sets apart teams like Verstappen's. He is making everyone better. He’s raising the stakes for everyone involved, from Perez to the team members fueling the cars. They all strive for their best, inspired to perfect their craft. This culture of continuous improvement and dedication to excellence is something I deeply admire. “Everyone has the capacity to improve, raising aspirations leads to exceeding expectations. Anyone can achieve greatness, the measure of potential is not just the peak one reaches but the journey and effort it takes to get there.” Adam Grant Hidden Potential Let's push each other to achieve beyond our perceived limits, remembering to pick up our friends and colleagues who need a hand along the way and drive to achieve greatness together.

What I Learned about my Relationship with Failure from Formula One Topical post as the F1 rolls into Singapore today. This is Lewis Hamilton, the British Formula One driver. Hamilton has won a joint-record seven World Drivers' Championship titles, and holds the records for the most wins, pole positions and podium finishes. From someone some people consider the GOAT, it is interesting to listen to how he discusses his relationship with failure and how he uses it to a champion. Here are a few key take outs: 1. Failure is Necessary. Most people fail more than they succeed, but failure is where you build strengths and become better. Change your relationship with failure and don’t see it as a negative. 2. Welcome Failure. Set goals and ambitions where success is not guaranteed. If the goal is easy anyone can do it and you are not challenging yourself. The harder the challenge, the stronger you will get in achieving it, but this means you will fail along the way. 3. Live With Failure. Lewis watches the race replays, feels the pain and analyses where he can improve. Don’t be afraid to embrace your failure. Let it hurt and learn from it. How do you see your relationship with failure? Do you fear it, or use it to your advantage? Ouch. How long before Renault throws in the towel over Alpine….? The Professor (!) decries top management’s interference with its Crown Jewel as a star leader and highly capable loyal lieutenant ousted. At least Rossi moved elsewhere, and replacement Famin very capable. But the way forward….? Success in F1 takes ages to build (eg Mercedes bringing in Michael Schumacher and Niki Lauda to lay the path that Lewis switched to at exactly the right time). Hence 100 races plan, but now….? Prost cites Dunning-Kruger Effect at play (!), and how F1 directors invited to conferences on management by major companies to speak about reactivity and flexibility - rarely other way round. Very ouch, baby.
Prost “saddened and distressed” over Alpine F1’s “huge mistake”

Starting with Max Verstappen's recent success last Sunday, it's crucial to recognize that his achievements illustrate a valuable lesson. While he may be the face of the victory, it's essential to understand that any successful endeavor, be it Formula 1 racing or any other project, is a collective effort. In any team or project, the importance of each team member cannot be overstated. Success often hinges on the smallest details, and it's the dedication and expertise of every individual that contribute to the overall outcome. Just as Max Verstappen relies on his team's meticulous work to secure victory, every project needs a cohesive team that works together seamlessly. Furthermore, having a clear leader with a vision is key to steering the team toward success. Much like the 555 Management team led by Marc Van Sintruyen, who not only possesses creative ideas but also brings together global teams, a visionary leader can inspire and guide the group toward achieving their goals. This leadership is crucial in making large-scale projects, like live experiences at major sport events such as F1, a reality. In my experience at F1 events, I had the honor and opportunity to meet talented individuals, including Max Verstappen, but it's essential to remember that behind every successful individual, there's a dedicated and skilled team working tirelessly. #TeamworkMatters #DetailsMatter #LeadershipVision #MaxVerstappen #555ManagementTeam #CreativeIdeas #GlobalCollaboration #LiveEvents #TalentRecognition #SuccessIsATeamEffort Marc Van Sintruyen Formula 1 #555globalliveexperience

F1 fans see Hamilton's move as a SEISMIC JOLT that could give Mad Max and Red Bull a run for their money. My takeaway is a bit different. I think it's a reminder that keeping superstars on your roster - on the grid, on the pitch, or in the boardroom - involves more than bling and cha-ching. MVPs need to be genuine stakeholders in your vision. Constant communication is key. Treat your MVPs not as commodities, but as emotional, passionate beings. Keep figuring out how to channel their energy into YOUR grid. "Why would Hamilton make this move? Was it monetary? Did he not like the plans Mercedes has for its car? Does he prefer the color red?" If you have to ask, you're not doing enough to keep your MVP on the roster. It's not about coddling. It's about partnering. #F1 #lewishamilton #leadership #partnership #mvp #racing #mercedes #ferrari https://lnkd.in/gDk8-aab

If you look at an F1 team their sole purpose is to make the car faster in order to win a race in order to win a championship. I talk to or see many business owners and managers and they can’t or don’t give that clarity and wonder why then their team are not focused, productivity not great, profitability and growth not great. If you put your flag in the ground, measure it and report it along the way, it’s amazing how people push hard to get there.
