A new cycle of #Umbraco upgrades is underway. This time it's from v8 -> v13 or higher. But what about new builds? Most agencies (including us) have been so involved in this upgrade frenzy that they've overlooked the fact that new build requests don't come as often as before. (Please correct me if I'm wrong here). To be clear, it's not an Umbraco problem. It's an industry problem. Most businesses nowadays have a website, good or bad, cheap or expensive. Excluding new businesses, existing businesses seem to not see a reason to rebuild their (possibly outdated) website if it's doing its job. Regardless of platform. But there's a very broad definition of "doing its job" here. Does it help businesses attract new customers? Does it help with brand awareness? Does it provide the means for businesses to grow? Have businesses really verified how visitors navigate their website and what they're actually looking for? Can their website be expanded with integrations or new functionality that will provide more value? Is it secure, or is it prone to be down every second week due to exploits and/or bad coding or bad hosting services? It's our job, as agencies, to help businesses identify what a new build could help them with. Some will probably say it's not, but not all businesses have access to the knowledge agencies have. Security and performance as arguments alone won't usually cut it - especially if these are factors that haven't had an impact on their websites - at least not yet. We need to be thorough. We need to explain - in detail - why the whole thing doesn't provide what it should - and why it's worth the cost to build something new. We must talk about expandability, flexibility, ease of maintenance, integrations, better technical SEO, and also about front-end stuff like layout redesign, UX, and accessibility. And, of course, security and performance. Can we do that? Should we do that?

𝗧𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆: 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 Instead of having multiple blocks in the Block List Editor that serve similar purposes, use setting controls to make individual blocks more versatile. This approach helps to reduce the number of blocks in the backoffice, keeping it better structured and making it simpler for editors to remember what each block does. How to Implement: • 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸: For example, you have a text and image block with the text on the left and the image on the right. • 𝗔𝗱𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: Include a toggle in the block settings that allows you to swap the position of the text and image, providing more flexibility and visual interest to the page. • 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀: With this configuration, you eliminate the need for a separate block with the image on the left and text on the right.
