Ensuring Industry Integrity! We are delighted to share that the HVACMIA recently submitted the response to the NSW Government's Building Bill 2023 - Licensing Proposals. In our submission, we emphasized the importance of creating a new license specifically for HVAC ductwork contractors. As proud representatives of the Tier 1 industry in NSW, employing over 1000 skilled workers, we believe it is crucial to address the regulatory gap we currently operate in. Our members, experts in fabricating and installing air conditioning sheet metal ductwork in high-rise residential buildings, consistently meet the Building Code's rigorous standards. However, the absence of a trade-specific license increases the likelihood of subcontractors persisting in their operations beyond the scope defined by governmental regulations, codes and practices. We are grateful for the opportunity to present our case and eagerly look forward to engaging with stakeholders to define an industry license that upholds professional standards and protects both our members and the clients we serve. #HVACMIA #BuildingBill2023 #LicensingProposals #HVACDuctwork #IndustryIntegrity #mechanicalductwork #manufacture #installation NSW Fair Trading Mimmo Scavera Sublime Air Conditioning Pty Ltd Quantek Mechanical Precision Air Services METALAIR Kavanagh Industries Emax Air

The BESA Group Book 2024 has just been published, and there's an insightful article from our MD Martin Whiteley on how to assess competence when sourcing specialist plastic ductwork contractors. As well as discussing the Building Safety Act's requirement for #skills, #knowledge, #experience and #behaviours, Martin also talks about why it's critical that supplier due diligence assesses other factors such as financial stability and workload capacity. #DW154 #4Ssurance

Fire protection systems are used as a safety feature in many industries. They are found in apartments, tunnels, on wharves. Often the design and maintenance of these systems is based on ensuring water gets to where it needs to go to best supress a fire and does not consider how to prevent corrosion and especially microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). These systems can experience MIC due to the prevalence of stagnant water and limits to the maintenance that can be performed. This paper is a review of the literature of MIC failures, maintenance standards and design standards for fire protection services both in Australia and internationally. Significant differences have been identified between the Australian and European standards in comparison to the North American standards for fire protection systems in the approach to corrosion and MIC in particular. In turn, this has been compared to a case study of a fire protection system on a fuel loading dock including what changes could be made to improve the maintenance of the system. ➡ Access the full paper to learn more → https://lnkd.in/gsCt-FfM 🚨 Register for the ACA MIC eLearning course → https://lnkd.in/ghPeBMD7 #MIC #PipeSystems #Steel #CorrosionControl #CorrosionPrevention #ACA #Paper #Research

This new HCAA tool is a great example of collaboration between government, academia and industry. Government (the Australian Building Codes Board) had the foresight to support regulatory innovation, industry (Hydraulic Consultants Association Australasia Ltd) provided field expertise while academia (Brendan Josey with Deakin University) put in the huge effort and thought to make it happen. The tool reduces the risk of over-design of pipework systems in buildings. Ultimately, this approach could lead to up to 10% reductions in initial water pipework costs alone. In every sector, there are so many opportunities for good outcomes from successful collaboration between government and experts in the field.

ACV UK, hot water and heating specialist, is pleased to announce the launch of its new CIBSE approved CPD training module, ‘Factors driving material selection for #hotwaterstorage products’. Split into easy-to-read sections, the new CPD looks at #watercomposition, how this can vary between regions and the effects it can have on materials commonly used in the manufacture of hot water tanks. It also covers the different types of corrosion and how this can trigger and manifest. Discussing how factors such as careful product and material selection can help to minimize these risks, the new #CPD explores the different product materials available, along with their benefits and drawbacks, and how these compare to each other when it comes to the performance of domestic hot water products in commercial applications. Market drivers such as regulations and costs are also addressed. Suitable for anyone involved in the management of #domestichotwater in commercial buildings, including consultants, #contractors and #specifiers, this new 45–60-minute long CPD can be delivered in person, either at a customer’s premises or at any of our Expert Academy training facilities, or online. For more information on ACV UK products, please go to to https://www.acv.com/gb, or to enquire about the new CPD, visit: https://lnkd.in/em8rjTgw https://lnkd.in/eR9WkKPU

The frustration with RAAC is widespread. Whilst we continue to support our clients dealing with the issues the DfE have identified, we also see this as an opportunity to highlight the need for building safety regulation and assessments post construction handover. RAAC products have been in place for over 60 years in some cases. Any product of this age should be subject to assessment and survey, but definitely those which contribute towards a building’s structural integrity. Do the industry need to enforce planned preventative maintenance measures, on all buildings in use? #buildingsurvey #buildingmaterials #ppm

What is BS 5422?🤔 BS 5422 provides guidance on thermal insulation for building services. It covers both cooled and heated systems, the prevention of freezing, issues of condensation, managing process or service temperatures and the protection of personnel. The latest update came into effect on 30 June 2023 and applies where planning permission was granted after that date. There are key differences from the 2009 standard including changes to fire ratings and the treatment of plastic pipes. In addition, the new version’s performance standards should deliver both lower operating costs and environmental benefits. For more information, read our blog https://lnkd.in/dXhc3eSM
